14 month male neutered started peeing on couch where I have sat

I had knee replacement surgery about 3 weeks ago this is when it started.

I'm on a walker I'm staying at one of my daughters and I sat on her new couch and not too long later he went up there and peed on the spot I have sat and he did it one more time.

Now I'm staying at another daughters and I was sitting on her couch and I came back out and he had peed where I had sat. He has every opportunity to go out the door to go outside and he does most of the time.

What is the problem?

Your dog is marking what he thinks belongs to him, you & your scent.

My 3 year old marks shoes if left where he can. He loved to lick feet, gross, but he's obsessed. Now I keep shoes up high.

Not sure how to fix the couch issue but my fluffy pooch does sniff where ever I sit when I get up. I suppose since he also sleeps on that couch he doesn't mark it since they don't mark where they eat or sleep
