A bit Unusual?

I love Della to death but she has a humping issue. Our old dog Princess was put down last year and Della has taken a liking to one of her old toys. I believe the humping is a dominance thing but it's embarrassing she does it in front of our guests and anytime she's bored she just pulls it out and goes to town. Then she wants us to throw it and she will chase it and hump it each time she retrieves it. I am not sure what to do. I have tried taking the toy away and hiding it and she watches me every time I hide it and whines until I give it back to her. I don't want to get rid of it because it is her favorite and used to be my Poodles favorite as well. I am just not sure if this is normal behavior and if I should be worried she is so sweet all the other times. I just do not like her obsession with this particular toy. I am open to any suggestions it is getting quite out of hand and she is now up to 3-5 times a day. Also we thought when she got fixed that it would help the problem it has not if anything it has made it worse. Any other stories/ advice are appreciated. I just do not know what to do at this point. Thanks again.

What the squeaker means
by: Iris Miller

I was watching Cesar the dog whisperer. He told a dog owner the squeak sound is the sound a small animal makes when a dog catches them. That is why it excites the dog, and they usually shake the toy like they would a small animal, especially if it squeaks, but my sog shakes it to death weather it squeaks, honks, or is silent. What a dog!

Della
by: Vicky & Jonah (Az)

Just like Samantha's dog in the "Sex & the City" movie. Jonah out grew it but he still goes & gets the same pillow after every meal as if it is a security blanket & props his chin on it. He also gets it when its time for bed.

I did thou give him an AH! AH! voice correction when young to relay my disatisfaction & stop the action.

Tuffy picked a wife
by: Iris Miller

The sex drive is hormonal in thw brain. Tuffy was neutered at four months. First he fell in love with my big velvet floor b pillow, twice the size of him. Tuffy was so determined he figured a way to make the pillow stand up!(and then he humped it). Afyer a while, I just hid the pillow out in a plastic bag in the garage. Then one day we went to an indoor park to play, and after play we walked around in the pet supply area of that store. Suddenly Tuffy spotted a life sized stuffed hedgehog and it was love at first sight! He stood up on his hind legs, pulled the toy off the hook, and ran for the dog with "Her" on his teeth. I caught him by the leash and guided him to the cash register. Two years later she is still his lover. He humps her, tosses her in the air, and hugs and sleeps with her, but only sometimes. Other times he and I play football with "humper" I kick it into the air and Tuffy runs and catches her.We do this over and over. Then, he runs away with the hedgehog prize and humps her. THE END.
P.S. When there is company humper is put away and Tuffy gets a liver treat in his Kng toy.Other times,.If he tries to hump and it is annoying me, I either go out of the room, or distract him by pulling it away, putting his leash on, and takes him for a walk. Everyone makes a big deal about it, but the way I see it,it is a normal instinct, dogs can get frustrated and bored.it's better he humps a toy or a pillow, than my leg, or anyone else's leg. Right?

No squeaker
by: Nicki and Della

Actually the toy is just a large red bone from the milky bone company we won at a dog show. It's bigger than Della and she loves to wrap her paws around it and go to town. I am not sure what she likes about it. It is too big for her maybe she likes the challenge?

Humping issue
by: Cathy

Does the toy have a squeaker? Jasmine only humps toys that have a squeaker? It drives me crazy, I try to ignore but she doesn't care, when she gets excited she just grabs the toy and goes to town! I've given her socks, hydra toys which she loves. I've hidden most of her plush toys hoping she will grow out of it, she just turned 3 in February, but no luck.
My brother has 4 dogs all little and only his oldest dog will hump a toy and that is rare.
If you find a solution to this problem please pass along.
Thanks!
