"If Abby had a downfall it would be that she did not get the love of water gene."
The downfall is not your beautiful dog, rather owner expectation.
The Coton is a long body dog with short short legs.
If you body was much longer, and if you had very short arms and legs, do you think you would love to swim in over-your-head deep water?
Think about physical structure before you C your beautiful Coton as a "downfall".

WATERNEW by: Reenie & CoCo
CoCo told me within days of when I first got him at 11weeks: "I'm in a little body and I can't protect myself from big animals".
After years with big dogs, I myself had to readjust MY thinking! Of course skunks, raccoons, BIG dogs, big people, even certain birds can just carry off our little tiny Coton. CoCo is a great barker, a great protector to "warn me" of danger near but then BIG MOMMY must take over "to protect".
My Coton puppy was no bigger than my upper arm. Of course he's scared! Oh, he "structs" his Royal strut like he's a somebody but its in ego, not structure. Confidant in personality, showmanship, LOVE.
CoCo wets only his paws at the BIG Ocean or THE River. Both are with "tides" that could carry our little Coton away in a blink of an eye. Thank God he's smart enough to know his limitations!
Swimmers CoCo is not. But he loves his shower/bath time cause I wet him all over with warm water to keep all parts warm, and rewarmed, as I bath him. He's a delicate creature. HIS HOT TOWEL AWAITS to dry him!
Why do owners and trainers think our little Coton's fit in to a mould? They do NOT train as other dogs, even their hair is not fur. They are such sensitive beings that even a whisper talk is listened to and heard. I would not ever want to break their excited, playful "happy dog" personality.
If your Coton is scared of the water let that be OK. Alot of people are scared of water, too.
As for drinking water? My Coton drinks loads of water cause I feed him fresh, natural, people food that includes natural salts. Natural Sodium minerals in natural foods increases natural thirst.
I wouldn't dare push my CoCo beyond his comfort level even into a pool with a life preserver. His little heart would pound in fear. His anxiety would increase, including his trust. I'll wait to 'til he's ready, as he sees other doggies play. Until then, I will be happy with his unique characteristics and know that I am already blessed.

Abby LynnNEW by: Vicky & Jonah
If your talking about the pool, y not start her out slow by getting a swimming vest & starting her off slow. U can pick them up here in AZ @ Ryan's Pets downtown. Since we don't want them going into the pool by themselves this way she can be taught that she goes in only w/flotation vest.
She is adorable.

You are a pretty little girl Abby and we wish you a very Happy 3rd Birthday. Hope you get lots of good treats but I bet you do each day anyway....Its ok to be a diva---my little girl is as well and I love
her so much.
Sorry about the loss of your Mastiff but glad you are able to step
in and help fill those big paws. We never really get over losing
out fur babies but it does help having another one to love.
Enjoy all your attention!!!!

When we first got our Layla at 9 months she wanted nothing to do with the water which was awfull since we have a boat. But little by little each year she is making process everyone goes in with her maybe ankle deep and she is ok so far. This year we got a puppy that LOVES the water and now Layla goes in before the puppy, like to say Ha I am swimming firs. So maybe try to have a friend's dog go with you to the beach a couple of times and see if that helps
Nearly three years ago we lost our little Coton named Keeva. She had kept us on our toes for 10 years. My husband and I, in our 70’s, were devastated and
Louie is just over 3 months old. When I get him outside for a walk and to get him potty trained, he tends to pick things up to chew. Because he's so close
