Agression

by Lesley Davies

My 5 month old puppy bites and hurts! She can be the most endearing puppy ever but suddenly it's like somebody pulls a switch and she changes. The only way to stop this is to put her on a lead until she has calmed down. The problem is I don't want her to think of the lead as punishment. I've tried everything I've read and more like grabbing her by the scruff of the neck and putting her on her back! I've tried talking quietly to her while she's biting, I've tried a sharp noise when she does it but to no avail! Help!!!

Biting. . . NEW
by: Anonymous

Give 'em a fresh bone to chew on. I found a brand my Coton just loved. I loaded up and had them near. I exchanged the teething/biting/playing into focus on the bone. The bone kept him busy for hours.

I also gave him away once. Told him to go find a new home. When the cleaning lady drove away with him (for a ride around the block) when my Coton came back HE never bit again!

"Go find a new home" was a behavior I needed to use once on my former dog. I used it only once. Who's boss was quickly discovered. Obedience picked-up pace forever after.

agression NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

A 5 month old puppy is cutting their teeth. Try taking old white cotton socks, get them wet & freeze them to let them chew on them.

If they feel like chewing always present them with something that is acceptable to chew but never fingers or hands. If you don't start the behavior of cheering on hands you will not have to break behavior.

Ice cubes can also be used to help them deal with the pain try fixing water with chicken or beef broth not to strong & freeze in trays. Good luck.

Biting NEW
by: Truffles Mom

My Truffles used to bite as well. I used to say "no" in very firm voice and smacked his little nose and say "NO BITE!" Truffles also happens to be a big licker & so when he licked I would tell him "good boy kisses!". Pretty soon as I would play with him and he would go to bite & I would say "no bite mommy! give kisses" and he began to substitute his biting for kisses. Of course now I'm stuck with a dog licks everything from toes to Michael's bald head. If anyone knows how to get the dog to stop locking everything like a cat I'm open to suggestions.

They are very smart animals and will pick up quickly.

I had bad luck with the skirt gun NEW
by: Leslie

I tried the squirt gun with excessive barking but my dog saw me use it so I do not think he trusted me for a long time. I am just having to work on being the pack leader. His biggest fault is barking at other dogs. We are working in this and he has gotten better He does like to wrestle but that is just playing my dog was adopted as an adult

Aggression NEW

How do you know it's agression My little guy made me bleed on several occassions which I attributed to merely teething. I replaced my hand with his toys and bully sticks. He loves those sticks. He can bite all he wants.

Try a squirt bottle with water - squirt her in the face to stop the behavior.
