Hi, My Coton barks at anything with four legs on television. Is there any way I can put an end to that. There are certain shows I can't watch anymore

thanks for the reply. I'm pretty used to it by now. He knows commercials with animals even if he's not in the room. He comes running in, in attack mode, lol. If He is sitting next to us, and we hold him, he will not bark. He's the best

3 yo Coton "Brady" loves TV NEW
by: Anonymous

My 3 YO male Brady Loves TV. Any animal draws barking and jumping up and down. The first few times he did it I thought it was very funny and I thought he must be very bright. 3 years on...it has become a little annoying fast forwarding through any show that has an animal, even animated animals. No Geiko Gecko! Didn't realize advertisers use so many animals in commercials.

barking at TV NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi, thanks for all the responses. I've tried everything. he now knows all animal commercials just by the music, before the animals even show up on the TV. Not only does he bark like crazy, but he kind of gets a little vicious, he will pull the curtains or any toy that he has. What I do now is immediately change the channel. Also, I will hold him and when he stops I tell him good boy, that seems to be working a little. I really miss watching Dr. Pol. LOL

Has always barked at tv NEW
by: Anonymous

Our dog has always barked at animals (even animated cartoon ones) on TV ever since she was a puppy. If she's in our lap she is happy and doesn't bark. What I've tried is "Stop That!". Sometimes all we have to do is get out the can and threaten with it. Some friends think it's "cute" and we thought so at first, but actually it can drive you crazy so I have tried to discourage it.

Watching tv NEW

I just tell Tuffy, "it's not here its in tv!" And I point to the tv. He "gets it". Smart dog
When he was a puppy we were watching a nature program and sheep were going around a mountain so Tuffy got up off the couch and tried to find them behind the tv
Ha ha ha
Too cute

TV Barking NEW
by: Keeva's Mom

Have you tried putting pennies in an old soda can and taping the hole shut? Then rattle the can when your dog starts to bark? This has worked for me. Now all I have to do is get the can out or just tap it with my finger while it sits on my end table and she stops. Sound strange but she hates that can! A

Distractions NEW
by: Lori

My dog doesn't actually watch TV, but if he hears a doorbell or phone from the TV he barks like it's the real thing. We try to take him for a long walk before we turn on the TV so he's tired and relaxed and then we make sure he's got all his toys to distract him. It's not perfect, but it's helped a lot.

Mine will bark at times also or sit and growl at the big scary dogs on tv at times. If yours will not quiet down try putting them in another room when they start acting up, mine like to be with me so if I remove them to the bedroom or gate them from the FR they do not like it. Once they realize this will happen I have no problem.

If "NO" doesn't seem to work maybe you could try this. It does get annoying but this has worked great for me.
