Dogpark Dec. 2011
I 1st fell in love with this breed in 1980 while browsing thru my Simon & Schuster's Guide to Dogs pg. 298. Personality: Devoted, affectionate, very attached to its home & master. Uses: Companion dog that loves wide open spaces, enjoys swimming, & can follow its master on horseback for many miles.
Jonah came into my life for my 53rd B-day on July 19,2007. "Best B-day ever." He is a kind soul who loves to plays with dogs that r fosters or just company. He shares his toys & never growls or steals them away. He loves kids, agility, frizbee, walks, dog park & we do everything together.
I have had dogs all my life. Jonah is my 7th & they were all truly loved. Jonah has been one of the smartest breeds I have ever encountered. Needless to say I can't begin to list the training mistakes I have made over the years. We try, we learn, we fail, we succeed. We work together & afford each other endless second chances. Yet Jonah seems to have the ability to be retaught skills & relearned rules quickly from my mistakes. So Happy 5th B-Day to my best friend. U r truly loved, cherished & appreciated & I am the luckiest human ever.
Jonah for ur info: The B-day menu remains the same a couple pieces of boiled shrimp & ur favorite homemade peanut butter oatmeal doggie cookies shared w/ur friends at the dogpark. Happy birthday baby boy.

Trace reacting to a smile
Trace is the 7 yr old Coton who spends an hour or two a day licking the inside of our black lab's ears, eyes, up under his chops, and the lab LOVES it. We have a chocolate lab who is completely ignored by Trace, the Coton. It's hilarious!

Diego is a very special dog. I am 78 year old woman whom has moved in with my daughter and family and could not have a dog where I was prior. While my daughter was in Marshalls I would always just visit the pet store in that strip mall. I felt like I hit the lottery when I saw this dog. I asked about it and never heard of this bread.
Its a wonderful dog for a senior. He keeps me alive and healthy. By having to walk my dog my cholesterol has gone done, my weight has dropped so has my blood pressure. Diego is such a wonderful quirky dog that I feel young and so amazing. I recommend this bread to everyone.
Besides it being the most adorable looking dog on earth. I love my dog and so do all the kids on my block.

Fifi, is a sweet girl who gives shy kisses, but loves to be close to her human mom at all times. She loves to "talk" to her human mom when she wants something or needs attention. She loves to clean her plate and doesn't like to be groomed at all. She is like her half Coton brother who loves to perch on the sofas and chairs.

Cotton turned 2 on august 19th. We have had her since she was 5 months old and just adore her. She is such a loving - smart-and wonderful little dog. This is her in the middle with her new rescued sister Candie on her left and her friend mick on the right. They enjoyed their ice cream and did not even mind wearing their silly hats!
She loves going places and riding in the car and her stroller, she has decided it is more fun to be pushed than to walk -- so of course she gets to ride. She also likes floating around in the pool on a life raft and can now get on and off by herself if we hold the raft in place on the side of the pool.
Cotons are just too special!

Since our two daughters are grown, she has become our 3rd little "daughter". She has such a calm personality, and loves to play with her best friend Jack (our daughter's Lorkie).

Chairs are comfy
Connie was a wedding gift, bought from Cotonalba, and living in North East England. She is perfect in every way, and her only area for development is accepting people as friendly, rather than shying away from them.
For her birthday, she is going to the Norfolk Broads, south East of England, and will experience boating, possibly paddling in a river, and maybe a splash at the seaside.

Feisty Cotton
Cotton was rejected by many others because she has a small flesh colored spot on her nose right against her hairline. Hardly visible - but enough to keep her from being in the show ring. As we were not interested in showing anyway, it made no difference to us. We agreed we would not show her and did also agree to have her spayed-- per breeders request.
We feel a lot of people missed out on a wonderful little dog. To us she is worth millions!! We have had so much enjoyment and love from this little bundle of joy; we are so thankful she was not chosen by someone else.
Her favorite things to do are going bye bye and playing chase and tug-of-war. She loves carrots and p'nut, and will only eat her dry dog food while riding in the car.
For her birthday she gets a small hamburger patty with a treat on top. I do not know what else to say except we feel blessed to have found her!!!!

I have had Cotton since she was 12weeks old. I am so glad she is part of my life she fills me with joy and laughter each day. She loves playing with her squeaky toys and tug of war but most of all she loves to take walks. She loves to watch the animal planet she could watch this for hours especially when she sees the dogs barking and playing she starts to bark and runs up to the big screen and touches it with her paw thinking she is able to touch the dogs she's so comical. She is also spoiled and loves every minute of it. When I come home from shopping she's so happy and watches me unload the groceries thinking there is something in there for her. When she was around 5 or 6 months and wanted to go outside to do her business the signal she showed me is she'd sit on her hind legs begging letting me know she needs to go. I was so glad she did this because there was less accidents in the house. I thought I'd never get past the puppy stages but I did and she turned out to be a wonderful, smart, loving little dog. She's a great companion my little Cotton Baby

She helps by wagging and jumping while we pick the veggies out. Mati loves vegetables most of all! Shhh! This year I will make her a mink coat because we live where the winters are very cold. Wenatchee, Washington is hot in the summer though. She had a "fitting" the other day.

Birthday Boy
Today is Luc’s birthday. I can’t believe he’s 6 years old – how did that happen? He’s finally adjusting to our new home and it’s nice to see him feeling spunky and mischievous again. When he’s not looking for trouble I start to worry:) Trouble for Luc usually just means being on the lookout for when I screw up and accidentally leave the trash unlocked (see photo above) or food out where he can steal it – he lives for those moments.
Today for his birthday he’s getting some Kong toys since he likes to work for his food. Happy Birthday sweet Luc – you are such a joy!!

Our Dog, Imy, is such a special Coton de Tulear. We searched for 3 years for the right dog and the right breeder. We wanted our grandsons to enjoy her, as well, since the parents would not get a dog for them. She is everything we expected and more. We celebrate her birthday with her human family, neighborhood friends and treats. She is the Alpha dog of the neighborhood and they all know it.
When we realized she was suffering separation anxiety, I started to take her to work. She knows the patients and greets them. We allow her to guide them into my office (many are aged and hard of hearing.) She so carefully walks away from them so they will not trip. As soon as they are seated, she retires to her blanket and will not play with them in my office.
Her manners are impecable and when I am dressing in the morning I put her harness on her after I put my jacket on and brush her. She thinks the harness is part of her uniform and behaves differently if we take it off during her visit to work. We love our little 9lb. dog who is the perfect size as a companion. She can give big slurpy kisses or little "butterfly" kisses if requested. She kisses if asked, but, is stingy, otherwise.
Sincerely,
Imy's mommie

Happy Birthday to my little Coton de Tulear ray of sunshine.
Triscuit, as all Cotons, is so adorable, smart and sweet. She loves her big sister Snickers, a brown Lab who usually has to put up with Tricuit’s antics – but they are never far from each other.
Triscuit is learning how to play Frisbee and loves to sleep on my lap while on her back while I give her the belly rubs that she so much deserves for all the joy she brings me.
For her 2 year birthday, she will go run on the big hill and perhaps even swim for the first time.

When I talk to him, he looks so intense as to understand everything I say. I know he understand what I'm saying to him because one day he followed me into my room, and I said, "moma left you something very delicious in your bowl". Logan turned around so fast and headed straight to his bowl. That's when I was sure he was grasping all my words. Sometimes, he obeys me and sometimes he doesn't. He can be very stubborn. I'll bake him a special dog treat to celebrate his special day.

Jolie's 1st Day with us
We got Jolie on 11-24-10, just about 2 months since my poodle, Prissy passed away suddenly. We wanted another furry kid, not only for the love but we also have a 12 year old chihuahua that had been very lonely since Prissy passed. A friend at work told me about this little doggie, whose parents had a new baby and did not have the time to spend with her that they would like. So I went to see her. It was love at 1st sight for both of us! She jumped in my lap and would not get down! Jolie fit right in with the rest of our furry babies and things haven't been the same since! She has the most personality of any doggie I have ever been blessed to belong to. She talks all the time and is always happy, wanting to give puppy kisses at any time. I had never heard of this breed before, but am enjoying learning about her. The Lord really answered a prayer for us, allowing us to belong to Jolie!

Mama's Boy!
As Watson hasn't had a birthday yet, I have no celebratory stories to tell but this little man is very special to me and we will be celebrating in a big way come June 6th. Watson lives in Vancouver, Washington with me, my grandson Toby and his baby brother Webster but he is definitely a Mama's baby. He loves to go for rides in the car, take long walks in the neighborhood and has to be blindfolded if he comes to the airport when I travel for business as he can't stand the sight of me leaving! He is a sweet and gentle soul but watch out if the doorbell rings!

Puppy Trouble
Webster lives in Vancouver, Washington and joined our family in December just a few months after we brought his big brother Watson home--Watson and my grandson Toby needed a playmate. But once Webster arrived in all four pounds of glory, it was clear that there was a new sheriff in town. This little guy has personality to spare but is also very cuddly. His short little legs make it a bit difficult to run with his longer legged brother or his pug cousin Bridget, but what he lacks in stature, he makes up for in tenacity...just look at that face!

He's a joy and blessing to our family. So very smart and such a big personality! He knows what a "treat" is and heads straight for the dog biscuit jar when you say the word. He loves to go anywhere with us and just be near us.
His best friend is his "fur" nephew, Buddy, who is a solid black Groogle, 1/2 poodle and 1/2 Brussels Griffin.

She brings so much happiness and joy into my home. Jasmine loves to snuggle and take a free ride with me in my wheelchair. I just love how she greets me each night when I come home from work. My Sweet Cali-Kat is the first dog I have ever owned - I got her from the Jomoran's Kennels in Rosthern, SK Canada, when she was 9 months old ... she was scared of the world ... the first night I brought her home, I put her on a chaise lounge in the bedroom with my husband & I ... and she did not move or make a peep all nite! She did not know how to play either! She has come a long way since then!
She will be 4 next month and her & I have been inseparable; we live in both Calgary, Alberta & La Quinta, California so she flies at least twice a year; she is such a great little traveler that she accompanied me to Europe last summer!
Cali-Kat has earned her California Good Citizen Badge & is a trained therapy dog she reads with grade 1 kids & visits seniors Our newest endeavor is Agility Training ... she is very fast and just luvs showing off! ... I call her Cali-Kat because she is quite aloof & cautious, more like a cat that a dog!
Next month we will celebrate her 4th Birthday ... stay tuned for a picture of that celebration!

Although, my grandaughter and I did sing Happy Birthday to him. Pepsi likes to chase... anything. So I have several toys for him to run and fetch,a tennis ball,an "eye of round" bone, and his favorite is his stuffed frog.I will post a photo of him soon.

Happy 13th Birthday Beemer! I talk all the time about OLIVER whom I wrote the book about, but my real hero is Beemer, who was rescued before OLIVER! My life changed, thirteen years ago, when my young son and I walked into Elmsford Animal Shelter, where I volunteered for decades. Beemer, a 6 month old Coton de Tulear, was an owner turn in and just arrived at the shelter 30 minutes before we wandered in. The shelter was going to put him down at the family’s request since he snapped at their child. She pulled his tail and threw a toy at him! He was then thrown down the basement stairs.
I saved Beemer, my heart dog and in turn, on July 20, 2003, he saved my life from a horrific accident at the boat dock; when I slipped on the wet ramp holding a wheel barrel Oliver and Beemer. As I approached the ramp, the dogs got nervous and ran down. I slipped, fell, and the packed wheelbarrow pushed me forward. I hit my head and body on a boat at the end of the ramp. All three of us were pushed into the water. The wheelbarrow was on top of me and I couldn't get it off. I screamed! It was 7:30 AM, not a boater was at the marina. I looked up through the side of the wheelbarrow and saw Oliver. Oliver was whimpering. I couldn't find Beemer. I panicked for my precious Beemer. Somehow after screaming and trying to get the wheelbarrow off, I saw Beemer in the water, which was about 10 feet deep. Beemer had never been in the water and I was not sure if he knew how to swim.
I tried grabbing him as he was going under the boat and drowning. While I was still on my side lying half in the water and not being able to get onto the dock, crying and thinking I was going to die, seeing his big eyes looking at me in terror, something gave me the strength to push the wheelbarrow partially off of myself. I reached out, grabbed Beemer by the neck. While still on my back, I lifted him to the dock. He got out of the water, drenched and started barking and ran up to the parking area looking for help. I didn’t say anything to him. He just knew what to do. He was non stop barking until someone heard him and came running to help me. (About 15 minutes later ) Beemer took the people to get us. Oliver although bruised on his back from the fall, never left my side. He was on the deck whimpering to me as if he was saying . . ."I will keep licking your arm and face until Beemer gets help!"
I learned several things that day. How precious life is, and how much love my heart holds for my furkids. And to always have life preservers on the animals whenever near any water. Happy 13th Birthday Beemer! I love you.

first week after rescue
We found Candie last July thru petfinder. She had been abused and living in a puppy mill. No training and was so frightened of everything and everyone. She will be 5 on May 17 and she will be eating steak and ice cream which she loves.
She has come so far and has made a wonderful addition to our family as well as a great playmate to our treasured little Cotton. They share everything and we are so lucky to have found them both.
The first pic is of Candie right after we got her. She had been shaved down and since we have had her trimmed once. She will be getting a puppy cut soon for the summer. She is supposed to be a coton but her hair (as you can see ) is so different from Cottons. It tangles so much easier as it curls even after getting brushed.
We are not certain she is Coton but she is ours and we love her. Are there any other curly Cotons out there?

CANDIE will be celebrating her 6th birthday on the 17th. So hard to believe that it was two years ago this month that she was rescued from the abusive puppy mill. Will soon be two years that we were fortunate enough to find her.
While she still has some fears she is doing better, we still are the only ones who can touch her unless she is safe on my lap. She no longer hides under the bed or trembles whenever any stranger approaches her. she loves going for outings and is great on the leash. Uses her pee pads when needed and the very best for me is when she rolls over for a tummy rub. It took her a long time for this trust.
She has such a sweet quiet disposition, not vocal like her sissy (cotton) but when excited or happy she puts her little nose in the air and howls like a wolf. so cute!
I have been trying to post pics of her but it keeps saying they are too large and I have made them as small as I can. We still are not sure she is a coton but am hoping her "coton friends" will help us in wishing her a very special day!

He is personality plus. He "talks" to us when he wants something. He has certain "noises" he makes depending on what he wants. One of the cutest things he does is lays somewhat on his side like a cat with that tail swooshing and slightly pounces his upper body forward towards you to get your attention to play with him. He's learned to ring a bell when he needs to go outside, although he often brings the bell when he wants to go outside, lol.

Zorro was named by the breeders because he had a mark on his cheek (the mark if Zorro) at birth. When we got him at 10 weeks, smart guy that he is, he already knew his name so we kept it. As my Mom was fond of saying "he's the best thing that ever happened to our family". So true.
He is funny, incredibly sweet, a big 'ol love, handsome, and unfortunately fear aggressive. With us he never growls or lunges or tries to bite but with strangers or dogs he doesn't know he'll do just that so we have to be watchful at all times.
Nonetheless we wouldn't trade him for anything.

I got Charlie when he was 6 months old from a breeder that had an accident and could not show him as a 3 month old puppy. I read a lot about the breed. I had Samoyeds before and was unsure about this breed. Charlie surpasses all expectations. He is very attached to me and will not run off. Has lots of personality. Sleeps on his side of a king size bed and will not cross over to my side. He is a picky eater, will not take any food or treats from anyone but me. For his birthday I give him a couple strips of cooked bacon.

Gino The Bambino
Gino is a sweet, loving & playful dog. Gino loves to go "bye, bye" in the car, he has his own car seat where he can look out the window and watch the world pass by.
We call Gino the "police officer of the house" because he does not like when people run. He stops my Son from running in the house by nibbling at his ankles and he barks from his car seat if he sees anyone jogging on the sidewalk. Gino fiercely protects his family anytime the doorbell rings. If Gino kisses one of us, he feels he must give everyone an equal share of his love, he does not leave anyone out. Gino's toys are his prized possession, however, sadly most do not make it for the long haul before their legs and arms are pulled off and the stuffing is ripped out. Buying toys that can hold up to Gino's "tough love" is a hard task.
Gino loves to open wrapped gifts on his birthday. We always make sure Gino gets some gifts under the tree for him to rip open on Christmas morning with my Son. My Husband and I can not have anymore children due to health issues. Gino has filled this very vacant and sad part of my heart with his love and beautiful spirit. Gino is a very important part of our family. We love our Gino The Bambino XO

Zorro's 1st birthday
Zorro usually gets gifts in colorful bags which he seems to understand are for him. He nuzzles to get inside and find the toy or treat. Amazing how he knows what to do😋 We had a special birthday bandana made for him and he proudly (or at least willingly) wears this for a few days. I'm sure every dog owner says their dog is smart. Cotons seem to have something that is extraordinary. He might "talk back" and get in the last word when corrected. He seems to know when we need a comforting snuggle. It's amazing how fast he learns. His boundless enthusiasm after time apart shows us how much he loves us. We couldn't ask for a more loving, sweet creature to share our lives with.

Happy 1st Birthday Dira!
We (my husband Fred and I) have two lovely little Cotons they are siblings.
Indira (we call her Dira) is independent and has a "fancy pants" disposition. She is smart and loving and gets along great with all people big or small! She loves her brother and they are together and play all the time ...she is definitely the alpha in the relationship.
Pino, also very smart is playful, goofy and very lovey...also loves all people! He is mischievous more chewing, harder to potty train, and steals and hides Dira's bones and toys!
Together they immediately filled our empty nest with action and JOY!
We just celebrated their first birthday...we sang and they joined in! They had some special treats and an extra long walk that day...nothing fancy. It's funny we have two grown children and the pups very much resemble their counterparts! We had dachshunds for 18 years and both died within 2 years of one another and left a big hole in our household.
I took an online quiz as to which kind of dog would best suit our lifestyle and there was the introduction to the Coton...I read everything I could on the breed and have never looked back! We live in DE and traveled to TN for them! We look forward to many more birthdays with our furry babies!!

From the time Moose joined our family, he only plays with his toys despite my 4 nephews trying to take his toys from time to time. If we were to lay a blanket/towel on the floor, he will not walk on it, but rather walk around it or sit down if there's no way around it.
Moose's favorite things to do are to go on car rides with us and be a "watch dog". He acts all big and bad with his bark, but then crumbles to the floor to be petted when anyone (family, friends, strangers) come to visit.

Happy 9th Birthday Baby Boy
Jonah came into my life for my 53rd B-day on July 19, 2007. "Best B-day ever." He is a kind soul. He shares his toys & never growls or steals them away. He loves kids, agility, frizbee, walks, dog park & we do everything together.
The B-day menu always remains the same. Boiled shrimp & his favorite homemade peanut butter oatmeal doggie cookies.

I'm so happy you brought me to the park
Jack is the light and love of my life. He has a goofy personality, but he is also very shy in public. He makes me laugh so much. He's goofy, happy and lovable. But he is also stubborn, spoiled, and annoying. But in a good way, of course. We figured out early on that Jack is allergic to dog food, so we make meals for him. For his birthday, we make him a birthday cake made out of meatloaf and mashed potatoes for frosting. He loves it!

Armani came into our home at 7 years old. We have not yet had an opportunity to celebrate his birthday but you can be sure we will. It will probably include a good romp at the doggie park with all his friends, visits with our neighbors who love him as much as we do and lots of snuggles
