Coton de Tulear, Charlie
by Patrick
(Indian Wells, CA, USA)
We have two dogs, Charlie (Coton de Tulear) and Coco (Bichon) that are best friends. Charlie is very intelligent and likes to watch television, especially when he sees a commercial involving dogs which causes him to try to look inside or on top of the TV.
He is a terrific jumper and can leap vertically 4 ft., which does not amuse my wife if that happens to be the kitchen counter. Charlie is very affectionate and always follows me around because he wants to know what's going on in the house.

Lilly Belle

Lilly Belle is a very alert, playful 9 month old Coton de Tulear. She is an absolute delight for our family. She is everything the breeder described and more so. She loves people, especially children. Her main hobby outdoors is looking upward to the top of trees and bushes, to watch for birds in flight.
Her sensitivity to mood changes in the family is acute and quite marvelous to observe. Can you tell that we adore her?

Theodore Roosevelt AKA Teddy (Coton de Tulear)
by Samantha
(Dallas, TX)
Sleepy Teddy
Everyone who meets Theodore Roosevelt a.k.a. Teddy says he is the HAPPIEST dog they have ever seen. I know this is a Coton trait, but most people have never met a Coton so they are truly amazed by his disposition.
When I first got Teddy I had just moved to a new city after school and was lonely. He truly lives up to the namesake "anti-depressant." I never feel alone with him, and he never fails to make me smile. Right now I am in an apartment, but when I save up for a house with a yard I can't wait to get Teddy a Coton brother or sister.
Zero, one of the loves of my life!
by Leslie Redman
(San Tan Valley, AZ, USA)
Que??
I am the mom of two teacup Chihuahuas and a gorgeous Coton de Tulear named Zero. I was sold on Chihuahuas, but one day, I saw Zero in a pet store window. I know, pet stores are awful, but he was actually marked down a lot because he was getting older. He was born in June 2008, and it was October 2008! I don't know what it was, I had to take him home!
He immediately became one of my babies! He's the sweetest, funniest, most personable little dogs I've ever seen. He and my Chihuahuas are my heart.

I think the Coton de Tulear is the best breed because they're such fun dogs to be with. Like my dog Lulu, whenever I'm crying or am upset she'll run right next to me and snuggle! She really makes me happy! That's why I'm getting another one! Her name is gonna be Krista and she's all white. The cool thing is is that they're sisters! Lulu and I can't wait ! :) <3

GUS the wonder dog
by judi
(draper,ut)
my new puppy, little black and white coton is so cute and lovable i just love him. i first heard of this breed on internet, while searching for a small dog that would be a good companion, but be happy in small space. we recently moved from large home and yard to small condo, smaller yard. i was looking at silky terriers or west highland terriers, but just couldn't quit thinking about these darling dogs. not only were they hard to find but too expensive. everytime i felt kind of lonely or down, i would get on computer and look at these cute little dogs. and start plotting how to get one, must have looked at them nearly 2 yrs. then found some in morgan,ut and also twin falls,id. had my heart set on black and white and quess what? i found GUS, he is special and a wonder dog because he lights up our lives and makes me smile and my husband laugh every time we see him. i should have named him BONUS, because he absolutely is a bonus to us in our 'golden years'

Coton de Tulear holds the record for fastest learner
by Kim
Hi, I just adopted a 4-month old Coton a few weeks ago and have to say I am amazed. She is incredibly sweet, quickly bonded with my Yorkie, and learning potty training at a rate faster than I've seen. I've potty trained Maltese, Yorkies, and Poodles, but my sweet Coton friend holds the record for fastest learner!
I'm a forever Coton lover.
Our little Coton de Tulear, Polly...
by Cary Burns-Smith
(Chicago, IL)
She HAS to be part of every cuddling opportunity.
Our Coton de Tulear, Polly, joined our family when she was 9 weeks old. She is very sweet, smart and loving. Although it's second nature to her, most people find it surprising that she is litter-trained. (I wanted to minimize dirty paws from the outside.) She prefers to do her "other" business however, outside.
Once she is let back into the house, she immediately sits and lifts her paws, so that I can wipe them. She is super loving towards our children and other dogs. It's so surprising more people haven't heard of the Coton.

Our Precious Little Girl - "Cotton"
by Sherry
(FL-----USA)
Our Coton de Tulear is now 8 months old and has completely stolen our hearts!!!! Such a joy to have around and for a puppy very very good. She finds fun things to get into but with a no no she leaves them alone. What a loving devoted pet they are.
Only problem is with food; she does not like dog food. My mistake in giving her some of ours.
Truly a wonderful breed!!!!! will keep trying to find a tasty food she will eat.
We LOVE our wonderful Coton de tulear companion, Miko
by Autumn
(Alexandria, VA)
running in the dog park
with his favorite toy
asleap on my cast after I had foot surgery
Our 14 month old Coton, Miko (AKA "the beast) is so loving and full of personality - my husband and I cherish every silly moment with him. He was amazingly easy to housetrain and he is so well behaved overall! Plus, he does not mind getting bathed or groomed - which we have to do quite often - since he tends to get super dirty playing outside with his doggie friends. Every dog in the neighborhood absolutely LOVES Miko! He is playful and friendly with ALL dogs (big and small).
Our little guy will do ANYTHING for cheese - he loves the stuff! Just say the word and he comes running. He loves to go to the dog park, to Petsmart or on any adventure that involves riding in the car. He's a bit spoiled with tons of dog toys! We can't resist getting him stuff! His favorite toy is a stuffed monkey with floppy long arms and legs - he'll drag that thing everywhere (it's about as big as he is - so it's really cute to see him drag it around).
I don't know if other Cotons do this - but Miko makes a huge range of sounds - mainly grunting and snorting. It's hilarious when he gets super excited (usually while playing) and he sounds like a wild piggy or something. Sometimes my husband will even have a grunting conversation with him.
Our little Miko is the center of our life - he makes us so happy!
Moriarty - My New Coton de Tulear Pal
by Mitch Tuckness
(Fairfax, VA. USA)
I just got my Coton de Tulear, Moriarty last week. So far he is doing well. Next week will be his first week where I go to work. I hope the training with the kennel and treats pays off. 4 hour stints can be pretty scary for a young puppy (he is 15 weeks old, but never been left alone. I have been leaving him in his kennel a few hours a day while I am in the other room, some whining and barking but eventually it tapers down.
He is a hoot though, Just learning his obedience training basics, sit, stand, stay etc ....
Such a good breed!
My good Little Boy!
by Dee
(New York)
Coton de Tulear, Spanky
We just got a Coton de Tulear this past Sunday, 9 weeks old, boy. I can not tell you how much joy this puppy has brought into our life. We named him Spanky, and when I say he's such a good boy, im not just saying that because he's my little boy.
We have only had him for 5 days, but thus far has been the apple of my eye. No accidents in the crate (hoping not to jinx it), very few accidents off the wee wee pad, is starting to understand the word No, and sleeps though the night! I have never had such a good puppy like this one ever and I must say, choosing this breed was the best thing we ever did. We are totally in love with him and he has made a great addition to our family.
Oh Barney! (Coton de Tulear)
by Ellen and Jimmy Ryan
(Scranton, Pa)
Barney and his best friend Cupcake
We have a little black Pomeranian for five years now that we just love to death! Then we thought what a great idea to get this little guy (Coton de Tulear) that I have done a lot of research on. His name was previously Cuddles (from the Breeder) when we got him home we changed his name to Barney. He is 16 weeks old now and we've had him for a month.
I can only describe him with the following adjectives - Beautiful, lovable, little pest at times, clownlike, loves to follow behind you on his hind legs, vocal, loves people, smart, mind of his own, listens well, drives our little Cupcake crazy, but we always find them sleeping snuggled up together, loves to go in the car with us, sleeps like a log at night time, snores.
With all of this good and bad when you look in those little eyes and he is counting on you to keep him safe and love him that's really all we can do. He keeps us laughing.

SOMETIMES SHE WANTS ME TO THROW HER A TOY, GO OUTSIDE - OR - HER FAVORITE THING IS HAVING ME CHASE HER AROUND THE SOFA !
CANNOT BELIEVE THERE IS SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS LITTLE 10 LB. BALL OF FUR!
SHE IS SO WELL BEHAVED WE CAN TAKE HER ANYWHERE, SHE LOVES EVERYTHING!
Our handsome boy "Sir Jackson" - Coton de Tulear
by JD
(Connecticut)
"Sir" Jackson
Jackson became a part of our family when he was 8 weeks old. He's now a little over 3 months and is a ball of fun, and brings us so much joy! He has been so easy to train, he even rings a bell that hangs on the door when it's time to go outside because he is not a very vocal dog.
I would recommend a Coton to any dog lover; they are such a great breed!

Coton de Tulear, Kooper and his first JeepJaunt (April 2010)
by BJ
(Virginia)
Kooper
Kooper at approximately 5 months old. My husband and I like to take JeepJaunts through the mountains of Virginia in a wide-open Jeep Wrangler and wanted a dog that we could take with us.
This was Koop's first trip and he did superbly (didn't quite have it wide-open for first trip). We stopped where there was a nice stream and Kooper promptly went wading in it, chased a bug, splashed around a bit..then peed in the water. Since this day we have gone on several trips with Kooper tethered to me while on my lap in the front seat or on the console between us in a special set-up by my husband. He doesn't like his harness/tether much but knows it is the only way he gets to ride!
More Bacon ?
by Wye Yinn
(Singapore)
Due to the all year round hot weather in Singapore, Bacon's fur had to be cut real short so that he doesn't feel hot...
So most of the time, he doesn't look like a Coton.
Maxine - The tazmanian devil!
by Carol
(Glenview, Illlinois)
Maxine.is 6 months old. Her mother was a Coton de Tulear but her father was a maltese..but I know she is more Coton..she stands on her hind legs a lot and looks just like a coton with the yellow on her ears.
Maxine is only 6 lbs (I think) but she can pull a lot more than her weight. She loves tools and my husband will find wrenches etc all over the house as much as he hides them..and napkins and paper...dumping over my husbands little trash can in his office is the highlight of her day!
She pulls the rugs out of the bathroom and those and everything else end up in the front hallway..She definitely makes us giggle!

Our Precious Coton de Tulear, Molly
by Anne Pombrekas
(Glenmoore PA)
Molly in her Bed
Molly's Favorite Napping Position
Molly came to us unexpectedly. We were looking for a rescue and had seen pictures of dogs online at Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown PA (a no-kill ranch). When we got to the Ranch, there were many small dogs from a hoarding situation. The dogs we met did not connect with us and they all were very unhealthy, so we were concerned.
Last Chance Ranch was not letting us leave without a dog. We spotted Molly walking off a truck from the Philadelphia SPCA. She was abandoned. We connected immediately and the love story began.
We had no idea what kind of dog she was until a stranger told us she was positive she was a Coton de Tulear. We had never heard of this type of dog. We went online and found your site. And we knew immediately what breed Molly was. She fit every personality description and closely resembles every dog we have seen in your newsletter and videos.
She is precious, funny, loving, laid back and has become our best friend. She runs like the wind and her agility ability is amazing. She alerts us to squirrels, foxes, deer and anything that may come into "her" yard. She is an amazing dog and has brought so much unconditional love into our lives. In fact, her vet suggested she become a therapy dog because she is so sweet and loving.
Dirty Dog, Fifi
Fifi (coton de tulear) is just so loving, loves being cuddled like my daughter's favourite teddy "Mr Cuddles". She has proved a little stubborn to house train but is now trained at 4 months, loves digging, chasing leaves and chewing sticks. Bathes 3 times a week and just sits there. Sleeps upside down with her legs in the air.
Josie the coton de tulear smoocher!
Josie in her princess palace
My coton de tulear is very affectionate and loves to kiss me like a human. She gives hard kisses on the cheeks, neck and tries to kiss my mouth! :-) I am thinking she may need a partner in crime to give her affections to!
Meet our Cotons - Chester & Phoebe Eby
by Donna & Dene
(Charleston, SC)
Chester & Phoebe Eby - A Sweet Moment
Chester on the Sofa
Can't Find a Place of My Own!
Playing Hard
Granted, all Cotons are great. However, we named our Chester after the longed-for "world's greatest dog" from the Bruce Willis movie, The Kid. In our eyes he is just that.
We entered him in the Charleston (SC) Area Lowcountry Cutest Pet contest, and he took first place and was the cover pet on the 2011 calendar! But was it his celebrity stardom or his visit with our son's hybrid wolf/Siberian that caused Chester to develop a nasty aggressive side? He was diagnosed with fear aggression. Maybe spending Christmas with the big, bad wolf wasn't such a good idea, ya think?
Anyway, after a lot of work, he seems to have that issue behind him. So, we decided to take the risk of introducing a little sister Coton de Tulear into the mix. Phoebe Eby (a black/grey/white beauty) was flown from a fabulous kennel in Houston to our home in the Carolinas. We held our collective breath to see how Chester would react to her. You guessed it; within a week she was running the place! And running, and running!
After his photo shoot our Chester had gotten so pudgy that we started referring to him as Chubby Chester (even if he can't do the Twist)! Four months later, on a steady diet of chase-and-be-chased, he is continuing to lose weight.
And, oh, yeah, Chester and Phoebe Eby are connected-at-hip best buds!
My Three Cotons -- Daisy, Poppy & Tulip
by Kathy
(Aiken, SC)
Daisy is 6 years old. I've had the best time with this dog. She is very sweet and affectionate and very attached to me. For a long time I thought that I would breed her (just once), so I did not have her spayed until last year. I decided that instead, I would just buy her some puppies. So last May I brought home Poppy and Tulip.
They are so adorable and fun to watch. I love to watch them run. They have the best time. All are different. Daisy is more anxious than the other two, but they are helping her with that. Tulip (aka Wild Tulip) is just a little bit hyper, but hilarious. Poppy is the sweetest but also the loudest.
In the photo, Daisy is the top, Poppy is on the left and Tulip is on the right.
Our Quirky Coton de Tulear, Haribo
We have had our 1 year old Coton de Tulear "Haribo" since she was 3 months old, I grew up with larger dogs like labs and goldens, but I picked this breed due to the temperament. She has made a great addition to our furry family of 3 cats and a ferret. In fact she and the ferret are best of friends.
We also had to deal with separation anxiety (that took several months) and car sickness(this is still not resolved )even after getting vet tips and trying almost everything. she does not want to leave the house. Once we have gotten to our destination she is very happy but she hates to leave the house. All in all she is our love, just very quirky.

New Chapter in my Life
by Maureen
(Antioch, CA)
I recently retired and found that my two wonderful cats were not much company in the afternoon (sleeping). I decided that I had the time to devote to a dog (since my corporate job had me away from home so much).
Researching breeds that matched my personality, I found the Coton de Tulear. I read everything I could find on the breed and visited a breeder 3 hours from my home. I feel in love with Mozzie the moment I saw her. She is the sweetest dog I've ever known! My husband loves her too!
I've had her for almost two months and everyone loves her and she loves everyone! The only issue is my two cats are still not accepting the puppy, but maybe in time they will come to love her as I do.

Kooper Goes To The Salon!!
by BJ
(Virginia)
Kooper
I went to my hair salon to just get my bangs cut. My husband and "Kooper" waited for me in the car. When done, I brought Kooper in to see my stylist and we laughed because his bangs were so long he could hardly see from behind them. So my stylist decided she wanted to cut his bangs too! And she did! It was fun and Kooper enjoyed all the attention the ladies gave him and got a big biscuit as a reward for being such a good doggie. As you can see from the picture...his big beautiful eyes can see beyond the fringe again.
Ring-a-ring-a-Rocco??
by Kate
(Ireland)
Rocco snoozing after one of his ring-a-runs!!
Hello all!
My first story that I am putting up here about my lil man, Rocco.
He is 7 months old and as bold as brass!! A cheeky little thing with a great personality!! He was the last of his litter, so I was SO lucky to even get him!
We have just moved house so I was a bit worried that he would be a bit out of sorts, you know? - having to learn where new things are, and where his bed is etc. But he LOVES it. We moved beside the beach and if possible... he is a better dog than before! He just loves going out and running around with all the other dogs we meet. He gets SO much attention with people going out of their way to come up and pet him and play with him (and laughing at how this tiny little guy gives their big dogs a run for their money, fearless!!!)He is so happy!!
But one thing I have noticed from moving, and being able to let him off his lead on the big beach is, that he runs in these perfect circles or figures of eight, leaned over like a motorbike racer!! Its such good fun to watch and he just goes on and on!!
I was wondering, does anyone elses little Coton do this or is Rocco just as mad as I suspected??!!!!
Thanks for reading :)

Is Bacon a Coton de Tulear?
by Wye Yinn
(Singapore)
I adopted Bacon about a year ago from his first owner who had neglected him. He is 4 years old now. I was told he was a pure breed but could not ask more as the owner was not sure. At first, I thought he was a maltese, but he was too "big sized" to be one, he is about 7.3 kg and built more like a schnauzer. So for a period of time, I thought he was a white schnauzer. But his face looked more maltese.
The search for Bacon's breed stopped and I concluded he is actually a cross. I have never heard of Cotons until yesterday when I chance upon a website. Cotons are not common from where I come from, Singapore.
Bacon has a very obliging character, he is intelligent and learns fast. He always seems happy. We nicknamed him "Happy Dog" because he always seems eager to please and be happy.
So is Bacon a Coton? That is the question in my head now =)

This gorgeous bundle of coton became a companion to ruffians and scoundrels brought aboard to control the rats and entice the Madagascan beauties into the pirates arms. Thank you to the land of Madagascar for this amazing and beautiful animal. Ours, Poppy, is 6 months old and an angel. She is the perfect companion and lights up every waking moment with her beautiful smile, soft hair, kind and gentle nature and amazingly intelligence and personality. She makes our family whole.
Meet "NEMO"

Paws for a moment
Happy to have stumbled upon this web site and connect with other Coton owners. Our family got Nemo from a Code of Ethics Breeder located in ONTARIO when he was 8 weeks old. Nemo is now 20 months old and is full of energy and love. Every day is a blessing.
My perfect pooch, Lola

Our Coton de Tulear, Burt
by Cesar
(Amarillo, Texas)
Burt coming home for the first time.
It took us all day driving over 500 miles to adopt Burt. It was well worth it. We brought him home to his adopted brother, a very mild mannered mutt we raised named George. George was very lonely after losing his Yorky brother who we had to put down after 17 years. George made the last half of our beloved Gizmo's life happy ones. Now Burt is doing the same for George.
They love spending all day playing until exhaustion sets in and then, sleepy time.
We'd never heard of Cotons before and can't understand why. Great breed! We'll love him forever.
My coton de tulear protector
by Diane
(Gilbert, SC)
I've had my Coton de Tulear, Jolie, for 4 years. She is a delightful creature. I can't imagine a better dog. The funny thing about her is her loyalty. When my husband and I disagree or have an argument, she won't have anything to do with him until we make up. She even growls at him when he comes to bed. She is always on my side whether I'm right or wrong. Everyone should have a Jolie.
Beautiful Bailey!
by Roxanne Wendl
(Omaha, Nebraska)
Such a happy and eager to please little girl! So smart and quick to learn. Bailey always looks like she's smiling and happy. After many years of my empty nest and mourning the loss of my dog of 15 years, this little girl is bringing me unimaginable joy.
I am so happy I researched the breed and decided to open my heart again! I'm looking forward to many years with my new family member.
Zoe, our cheese loving Coton de Tulear
by gary
(columbus ohio)
Every morning, Zoe will not go outside to do her business till she hears the ruffling sound of a slice of cheese being separated from its plastic wrapper. Then she comes bounding down the stairs for her treat and then runs to the door to go out.
She is super special. We have had her for 3 years now and everywhere we go, people are always complimenting this breed. Actually, when we returned from the breeder with Zoe three years ago, within 2 months, there were 2 more Cotons on our street. Here are some pics of Zoe. Enjoy!

Kevin invading my bed!
I am from the Philippines and I am a lucky owner of this rare Coton de Tulear dog. My Kevin loves to run around the house, eats his treats on his bed, sleeps under the sofa chair while his four legs are spread.
At 4 months old, he enjoys rough playing already like pulling the bath towel, wrestling, etc. So far, my sister and mother love him so much since he was the first dog in the family.
My only problem is that I cannot find another Coton de Tulear owner here in the Philippines. I wish I could find one so that my Kevin can play with his own family and hopefully, spread his genes to eventually increase the population of Cotons here in the Philippines.
Our little Vinny - Coton de Tulear
by Jovana
(The Hague, The Netherlands)
Coton de Tulear
My husband and I have jobs that take us far away from our families and to foreign countries. I kept asking for a dog so I would be less homesick, and just last week for my birthday my hubby bought me Vinny.
He is our little luv bug monster who loves to kiss and play. He is, however a little afraid of cars, but we're working on it! For teething, we give Vinny a baby carrot straight from the fridge. He loves it, and I don't feel bad about giving him "junk food". Truly an amazing breed. I am so happy with "my lil man."
Best birthday present, ever, hands down!
Coton de Tulear Canine Cash
by Greg
(Ohio)
Our little Coton, Rudy, seems to know about money.....He is constantly getting into my wife's purse and the only things he takes are the check book and any paper money. The "goods" always find their way under our bed, maybe he's saving for a new Barbi doll? He's 9 months old and our spoiled baby.....best breed around....
Wall-E - our beautiful, macho, funny coton de tulear dog with the biggest heart
by Jill
(North Carolina)
Wall-E
Wall-E is the sweetest, most affectionate companion coton de tulear dog. He loves to be snuggled up close to one of us as often as possible. He especially likes to curl up on the couch and wrap around behind my neck.
Although he prances when he walks and looks so beautiful, his inner personality is a tough guy who would take on any big dog and he has a loud and urgent bark. He likes to talk a lot and makes a lot of throaty sounds when he is happy.
He is so quirky about his food. It seems so bizarre to me that a dog doesn't like a bone and only likes one type of treats! He spins in circles and goes crazy for lasagna or anything with tomato sauce. He loves to walk with me around the neighborhood and meet other dogs. He still insists on being in the lead. The cats hit him on the nose many times but he would just wag his tail and has never given up on trying to be their friend.
He makes our whole family happy every day and loves to give kisses especially to kids. Walle brings so much love and laughter to us. We adore our coton!!

Oliver wins everyones heart
by Ed Waldrop
(Rancho Mirage, CA)
Oliver - Coton de Tulear
Our Coton de Tulear, Oliver, became a member of our family just as he turned 6 weeks old in August of 2004. He has never met a stranger since!
He adores children and is exceptionally social with his creature "friends". He loves to hike, go for long morning walks and "car rides". He loves to be included as a real family member and lets you know immediately if he isn't!
We never had to house train him; it just happened. At 12 weeks old he knew what to do when he wanted to go out. The Coton dog is the most exceptional creature we have ever met!

those gorgeous eyes
I just signed Bailey up for puppy agility. He runs around the yard doing crazy 8's going 90 MPH. I had to take him to the groomer to trim the hair over his eyes so he could see to tackle the jumps and run the tunnels and was so nervous as I just loved his hair over his eyes. As you can see in this pic, just how beautiful his eyes are and I can't believe I kept them covered.

My precious Coton de Tulear, Misha
by Adele Estherson
(Manorville, L.I.,NY-USA)
I've wanted a dog for the past several years but between one thing and another (including double knee surgery) I just kept putting it off. By chance, my daughter-in-law's sister could no longer keep her Coton de Tulear and as she would only give the dog to a family member, I was the fortunate one.
Misha is 18 months, tri-colored, cute as a button, fully trained and just the sweetest little dog I've ever known. I've had dogs all my life and never even heard of a Coton but now I can't help spreading the word to friends and family as to the fantastic Coton de Tulear breed. She's not only the cutest, most well behaved, gentle, and funny dog I've ever had but she's also very smart and learns very quickly.

our Sushi
by Lucy
(Israel)
My husband decided to bring me a puppy as a present for my 27th birthday. Since we're both have many allergies, it was clear to us we'll have a hyper allergic one. We've been looking for dogs, when my husband found out about the Cotons. Since it's rare we were afraid we won't find it in Israel, but luckily my husband found a group in facebook for the coton's and Israel and after two weeks we went to see our puppy. it was hard to choose one as they all were extremely cute, but when my husband took one of them he immediately fell in love with him.
Today he's 3/5 months years old. He's adorable and cute and loving little dog who just want to play and lick you all day long.
We're still learning about him as his behavior, so more to come later on.
My sweet little ball of cuteness, Reno
by Julie
(Albany, NY)
We have had our Coton de Tulear, Reno for almost 2 weeks. He is 10 weeks old today. He is the sweetest puppy I've ever met. He sleeps through the night and is doing EXCELLENT with house-training.
I can already see how smart he is. He has learned how to sit, stay, lay down, give his paw, and come when called (not every time but we are working on that). Everywhere we bring him his precious little face just melts people. He is very playful and outgoing yet very mellow at times.
He has such a well-balanced personality. I am excited to watch him grow and am looking forward to many years of his companionship.

Foot washing for free ~ By Annie and Lucy
by Helen Harville
(Hamilton, Ohio)
Annie, my sweet coton needed someone who could run and play at her fast pace as I couldn't because of a bum knee. I was afraid of getting another coton de tulear.... afraid I would compare the two and that certainly there could never be another one as sweet and good as Annie.
I decided on Lucy, a Havanese and Shitzu mix. They play great together and again.... there's surely not another mix out there like Lucy! (Don't we all feel that way about our babies??)
Anyway, they love to give me 'foot washings' and Annie is thorough in getting in between the toes! Such special treatment from my girls ~ love 'em to death!

Toby
Toby with his brother Max
I got Toby when he was 13 weeks and he is now 5 months old. He is a really good dog and loves my other dog, Max. Toby is almost completely potty trained. I'm so fortunate that he doesn't pee or mark in the house. I didn't crate train him and he basically runs around the house with my other dog. The only issue I have with Toby is that he will bark at people and other dogs when we go for a walk. However, he doesn't bark when people come to our house. What is the best way to teach him not to bark?

Giovanni & Natasha Summer 2011
by Lana
(New York)
If not for my Cotons who knows what shape my life would’ve taken this year. It was hard to breathe & face another day coming…
One day while scrolling the web I came across a lovely Coton de Tulear’s face. Since that moment I could not let one thought go: “I need Coton , I love this dog, I have to have this adorable face looking into my eyes every day”. I did not know anything about Cotons but was determined to be the best dog owner I can be. It’s only fair to this lovely Ball of White Happiness.
I cannot describe to you my feelings the day I was picking up my first Coton from the dog breeder who came to NY to meet with me. Thanks for Youtube.com I was able to see my Gio before we met in person and get to know his brothers and sisters as well.
He was the most active puppy on the screen, jumping up and down, in & out of a big tub & I fell instantly in love with him. The breeder said he has the biggest personality there is. So true! Very emotional and sweet, companionate and happy, larger then life personality.
We became very close & protective over each other. He was very shy at first but his time long gone…
I stopped randomly crying in coffee shops while talking to my friends & little by little took my life under control if you will. The only thing was bothering me - my Gio was lonely home while I was gone, so I called the same dog breeder & a friend by then, to get another puppy, a girl perhaps. My little son jumped with happiness that day and said to me: ”Mommy you are crazy in a good way, I love you!”
Natasha is my son’s favorite girl now. She is sweet and very beautiful; she is cleaning herself day and night, loves to eat and runs like the wind. She always wins the race in the game. A dream girl!
Giovanni will be 1 year old this December, Natasha is 9 months only. We love them more then words can say and they love us back. Giovanni is trying to saying “mama “, he loves to walk in the rain. He has a big heart!
They changed our life & my children are always happy to play & be with both of them. Can you blame them?!
God Bless Cotons !!!
Bella and Henry

Bella and Henry
Bella (black/white) and Henry are playmates and wonderful additions to my home! Bella was born in March 2008; Henry celebrates his birthday in July and he will be 6 this year! Bella loves her tummy rubbed, and Henry enjoys teasing her by taking her favorite toy.
We have a third dog, a rescue Bichon we have named Oscar. Both Bella and Henry welcomed Oscar to our home in 2009 and continue to tolerate Oscar's skittish behavior. Oscar came from a puppy mill and has slowly let down his guard and is bonding with all of us.
My pups are wonderful, loving, playful, and I am not sure what I would do without them!
Tassie Foo Fancy Pants
by Lynda Owen
(Las Vegas, NV)
Our Coton de Tulear, Tassie, began her life with our family flying across country (First Class OF COURSE). When she and I arrived home, there was a big Welcome Home Tassie sign with all the neighbors waiting to meet her.
She is the first little dog in our household, but don't tell her that, she thinks she is every bit as big as the rotty. Then, in 2008 when the food poisoning hit, all 3 of our dogs and 2 cats were stricken with liver damage. Fortunately they all survived, but Tassie still battles with the weight gain it caused. She was destined for great things, and as you can tell quite the survivor.
The Coton is the most amazing of any breed I have ever known. Stand by for future updates!!

Bandith
One and a half years ago I was looking for a dog and a friend at work said she had the perfect dog for me, a 3 year old Coton de Tulear that needed a new home. I went to see the dog and it was love at first sight. He came home with me the same day. Bandith was imported from Denmark and is among the first Coton dogs we have in my country.
Kissy....yes she is!!
by Skip Nelson
(Edmonds, Washington, USA)
I was looking for a small dog. I put an ad in Craigslist for a Havanese. A reader sent me an e-mail and told me she had a Coton de Tulear that she needed to find a good home for. I had no idea what kind of dog this was, so I did searches on the internet. I found absolutely no negatives about this dog...except maybe for the fact that you have to groom frequently. I decided to meet the lady and take a look.
Upon my arrival, I saw that "Kissy" was friendly but somewhat reserved. She was also a little dirty, and looked like she had some matting. From the attitude of the lady, I could tell that Kissy might have been a little neglected. I decided to take her.
I took her to the groomer immediately and was informed that she had a bad ear infection and that I should take her to the vet immediately, which I did. I got her gone over and got medication for the infection, and had her teeth cleaned. That was four months ago.
Kissy has brought us so much happiness and fun. I love this dog!!

Playing Around the Yard
Hanging out
Rescued Max on Dec 28th while driving home. He was in the right hand lane of the FWY when I spotted and just missed hitting him. I stopped, put on my emergencies and chased him until he stopped, let me pick him up and put him in the car.
I did not want a dog and never had one so I took him to the shelter. I could not stop thinking about him so I went to the shelter everyday until the 5 day waiting day period was over and adopted him on New Years Day, 2011. No one could figure out what he was until we recently discovered that he was... a Coton de Tulear.
My little Coton de Tulear, Angel Pashu

(Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil)
I live in Brazil. So you all can imagine how rare is to have a Coton in the country. Pashu is a male Coton de Tulear and he is 7 years old. He was given to me as a gift when I was passing through a very hard time in my life and he just became my sunshine, that´s why I often call him as my angel.
All who owns a Coton knows how friendly and happy they are, Cotons are always smiling and love to be close to us. That´s why everyday I´m very thankful for him to be part of my life!
“Niko” A Christmas in July
by Kirk Clemence
(Taylor, Michigan 48180)
Niko
On July 13, 2009 our 8 week old Coton de Tulear made his first car ride home. From that day on “Niko” has won our hearts in many ways. He can be counted on to be at the door to greet you with a big smile, wagging tail and a kiss. Each night as he starts to wind down he will cuddle with you until he is put in his crate for the night. Niko is very smart. He rings his bell to go outside and walks down three layers of deck along with seven sets of stairs to get to his grass. His favorite place outside is the lounge chair. Niko is also very amusing. He loves to do tricks like roll over and dance. He doesn’t mind when his 5 year old niece carries him around. He loves people and other pets, the more the merrier. Being hypoallergenic and non-shedding is a bonus. Niko has made our family complete and truly gave us a Christmas in July.

Our New Coton de Tulear Addition - Tyler

Tyler
I had been hinting to my husband that I wanted a puppy for over a year. A friend of mine called me one Friday afternoon to tell me there are Coton de Tulear puppies ready to leave their mommie.
I took the hour ride by myself just to "look" at the puppies! I immediately fell in love with "Tyler". I was drawn to his coloring, markings and mischievous beahavior. I gave the breeder a deposit and brought my husband back the next day for him to "look" at the puppies. He didn't know I left a deposit, but ironically he loved the same puppy I had secretly chosen!! He said Happy Valentine's Day, let's take the little guy :)
It's been 3 months and we just adore Tyler. Can't imagine life without him! And he's potty trained! We installed a doggie door and he loves the freedom of coming and going - when he needs to!

My Coton dog thinks he's a cat
by Gale
Luc stuck in the cat toy
Luc trying to go out the cat door
I already had a cat when I first brought my dog Luc home. Apparently he's been influenced more by Lila the cat than I thought. They are great friends and I guess Luc just wants to be able to do the same things the cat does.
These 2 photos cracked me up. First he got stuck in the cat toy and then he almost got stuck going through the cat door. He also loves cat food so I have to make sure her dish is set high enough so he can't reach it. I don't have the heart to tell him he's not a cat:)

Just wanted to drop buy and say that Moriarty is doing great, here is one picture of him at a year and a half old and a couple others when he was younger before I had his hair trimmed so he could see!
I wish their hair was easier to keep from matting, but with brushing and a once a week visit to the groomer he stays nice and fluffy!
I still love him more than ever, he is my constant companion, his favorite thing in the world is to go for a car ride. I grab my keys and he just starts jumping and going nuts. He is sleeping right next to me as I type this on my laptop on the bed.

I adopted Zoey from a rescue group who thought she was part Maltese. I saw a show featuring Cotons on Animal Planet and was amazed to see Zoey! She fits the physical appearance and traits of a Coton de Tulear, and now I'm wondering if she is, in fact, one of these wonderful dogs! I had never heard of this breed before now. I am going to ask my vet what she thinks and see if there is a way to find out for sure!

Coton de Tulear Pele dresses up
by April
(San Diego, CA)
Our Coton is just 21 weeks old. My mother had been waiting months for him to be born and she finally got him home the weekend of July 4th. She passed away unexpectedly on July 9 and we were left with this little bundle of love. Pele has brought untold joy to my girls and our family and he's helped ease the tremendous loss we feel every day.
My youngest daughter wanted to dress him up for Halloween, we're not sure if he's supposed to be a Pilgrim or a Witch, but either way it's too cute not to share (yes, he's very shaggy right now, we're finishing up shots so he can go to the groomer).
He's still a naughty puppy and finds himself in time out quite a bit, but he's got a heart of gold and is so smart, he learns quickly what isn't ok to do!

Gracie at the beach
I am in love with my Coton-de-Tulear, Gracie. She is 6 yrs. old and such a great dog. Always faithful, loving and loves to be near us. I know a lot of dogs may be like that, but she is special.
Her hair is soft like cotton but it can be one of the more challenging parts of this breed-they need to be brushed often, but I usually keep her in a shorter cut. My family has allergies and she is a dog no one is allergic to, doesn't shed and just sweet.
Can you tell I love my Coton?
I understand those blank stares when people ask what kind of dog and you tell them. Many think they're so smart and know already (they usually guess Maltese), but these dogs are not yippy and are great with kids.

My Little White Shadow
by Dianna Hannah
(Spotsylvania,VA USA)
I have a 6-month male Coton de Tulear named Atlas. He follows me everywhere I go. I once went in the laundry room to wash clothes, looked around to see him (he's usually ALWAYS behind me) and couldn't find him. I eventually saw him "sitting" in the cat's litter box. He wasn't trying to eat anything, he was just sitting there looking pretty. I had to laugh. Guess he sees the cats use it.
He also enjoys stuffed animals and will sit for hours sucking on either a tail or nose like a pacifier. He's a lot of fun!
