Crate size

I am getting my Coton in a few weeks and am debating what size crate to get. I plan to use this particular wire crate when I will be gone during the day for a few hours at a time. She will have a smaller one for sleeping in my room at night. I want one that allows her to have some room to play while I am gone. I was thinking either a 24 inch long vs a 30 inch. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Crate size NEW

Go to Dress for less ROSS they have crates and are much cheaper then the pet stores. I just brought one on sale for $9.00. These are wire crates. Do not buy the plastic carry crates as they don't give the dogs enough air and they can't see much out of them. I've brought two different sizes because as my puppy grew to 16 pounds - yes she is a big Coton, she needed more room to move all around but I can also leave a sturdy bowl of water in it without her tipping it over.

Crates NEW
by: Bentley's Mom

For early training a crate that allows your pup to turn and stand easily may be a good idea, but my Bentley potty trained almost overnight during one of the worst winters to hit Ohio in 2013. We hace a fabric sided crate which fold for travel easily and Bentley has access to it all day since the flap door is always left open. Dogs feel secure in a little den structure and he goes there to nap and chill out. But mainly he has the full run of the house and sleeps snuggled next to me at night. With any luck, you will have this also with your pup. My feeling is if a dog is left crated because of the owners absence or lack of proper training, then maybe a dog is not right for them at that time in their lives. They are part of our families and want to be with you. Use the crate for early training and travel.

Crates !!!!!!! NEW
by: trisha

I have had Lily just over 5 years she has never been crated. When she was a baby sheets never left more than 1 hour, yes she destroyed some furniture but what puppy does not. She has slwsys sleep on my massive bed. She is totally loved. Why do you want to crate her? Sorry to me it makes no sense unless you are using as a den for her and the door is never closed!!!!!!

Huge Crate NEW
by: Sydney's Mom

Sydney has slept on our bed with us since after having her for about 3 weeks. She was about 11 weeks old at that point and I gave up on the tiny crate we brought her home in from the breeder. She would wine and cry constantly all night. Since I am a light sleeper, I could tell when she woke up and would take her outside to do her business during the middle of the night. We had a very big crate (XL size about 4') that we used when our pup was little and we had to go out. It was more like a dog condo than a crate. We used that until she was a bit more than a year old. Now she has full range of the house when we go out to work.

Crate Size NEW
by: Tea Morgan

Hi, I have a full grown Coton and I have a 30" and 36" crate. I used the 30" for upstairs where our bedrooms are and he sleeps in the crate when were are sleeping. He is in our bed until lights out and we tell Max to go to bed and he knows we are calling it a night and goes to bed (crate). When we go out, he stays in the 36" crate downstairs. It's roomy like his own living room and we are only away for a short time. We leave a baby blanket in each crate for him. If we are away for more than a couple of hours, he goes to the doggie sitters. Hope this helps!

sleeping at night NEW
by: Sylvia

Mr. Bailey is very affectionate and he loves to sit and sleep in my bed right next to me. When you are gone, leave the door to his crate open and put it where he can look outside. Mr. Bailey is never in a crate. He lays on his bed and looks outside when I'm gone. He's lying on the couch right next to me as I write and he sends his love to your baby.

My full grown Coton fits comfortably in a 24" crate (although he's not in it that much!) He's about 14 lbs. Sometimes I will find him sleeping in it with the door open - I put a pet bed and a small blanket in there for him. Originally it was purchased for him to sleep in at night....but he's been in my bed for 3 years now! It does come in handy when I am out for a few hours to keep him safe while I'm gone. Hope that helps!
