Do coton de tulear puppies cry a lot?

I have a 10 week old female coton puppy. When she first sees me, she cries a lot. Took her to the vet she's fine. She then stops after distraction. Anyone else experience this?

Crying NEW
by: Jaime B

My 6 month old Coton scooter cries all the time. Usually ether for attention (which is often) or when he has to go outside to use the bathroom. The crying is sometimes annoying but he is very cute and loving and overall a great pup. He's still a baby at this point so a certain amount of crying is to be expected.

Crying? How long were U away? NEW
by: Reenie & CoCo

Little puppies at 10 weeks cry for many reasons, grief from being away from their litter, foreign smells (too strong), new foods, not enough water, alone too long, crated in confined area, and held pee way too long.

Little Coton puppies have bladders the size of a Pea. When CoCo was 10 weeks he had to go often, sometimes every hour. Holding it is stress on the bladder (problems down the road).

Too many believe a puppy can be left alone/locked-up in a crate for hours. I treated CoCo as a baby. Babies and puppies both need sitters if mommy/daddy is away.

Innately the animal pup will cry so mommy can "find them". Puppies not found for hours are with scared, broken spirits ("lost mommy"). This creates adverse anxiety issues and dog behavioral issues.

I was lucky with CoCo. I was able to take him with me where ever I went. I didn't train him to be alone until well after 9 months. I did it gradually, 5 minutes building to an hour over time. He adopted well and at 14 months he acts all grown up no matter how long mommy needs to be reasonably away. His "job" is to "watch" the house for mommy! He has a special daybed & window to do just that.

I lucked out with CoCo. He found me by accident at 10 weeks. I had no prep time. He arrived and never left. I had no crate the first night. He snuggled with me in bed and that's just the way it continued!

No puppy crate, no leaving puppy alone and no cries or barks. Oh, he nodes me to go PeePee, and if I miss that clue he sticks his tongue in my ear, then my mouth! He runs in circles to go PooPoo and if I miss that clue he rolls out the toilet paper!

This breed communicates well, if we listen!

Your little sweetie is saying something to you. . . She's sad. She missed you. She needed you. She didn't know when you would be back or where you went perhaps. She's lonely, perhaps terrified at that age to be without mommy/daddy. Innately the pup will cry so mommy can find them. Your little puppy might have exhaustingly cried hours for you.

The happiest, well-adjusted, Coton puppy is the one that is nutured as a puppy aught to be - loads of love, special attention, sone play, bonding companionship, outings to explore and never left alone too early. Discipline doesn't work well for Coton's. They just want to be shown (taught) with love whispers and WILL please!

Crying NEW
by: Sherry & Cinderella

I raised two toy poodles and a Coton, Cinderella, all at the same time. I have since regained my sanity, and vowed to never get three puppies at the same time again! The poodles were quiet most of the time. The Coton, cried all night, night after night after night even though she had two other pups to keep her company! I never slept! Try having a person sleep in the room...? Not a peep out of her. They are not allowed in bedrooms due to my daughter's allergies. But, if you sleep on the sofa, no problem. Fast forward 5 years... the poodles are still basically quiet, one more than the other. Cindy is fairly quiet too, except for all the "talking" she does, which is adorable. She has become the Mama dog of the group. I believe that Cotons just need their humans close by as much as possible. It's wonderful to be loved. Good luck with your baby. She will need lots of attention, but it will be worth it!

crying cotons NEW
by: sherry cotton candie

My one cries- squeals whatever whenever I am gone a few minutes and return. I do not see it as a problem, she is excited to see me and I always miss her as well. -------It just takes a few seconds to hold her and she is out the door to potty and being a normal girl again. No big deal to me.

My rescue will spin circles and on occasion howl, I think it is cute.

I think it would be far worse to come in the door and not have them be happy that I have returned. How else can they communicate with us?

Never reward bad behavior! NEW
by: Anonymous

Just make sure that you don't reward bad behavior - it will make it permanent. So for example, if she' whining, don't give her attention until she stops. Then pet her/pick her up and reward her with your attention. This goes for ALL bad behavior. Your life with your puppy/dog will be much more enjoyable long term if you heed this advice. If you haven't already, get a good dog behavior book or read online.

Enjoy your Coton - they truly are the best dogs ever!

She's fine. She's a baby. She got ur attention & u played w/her. The trick is to play w/her or acknowledge her b4 she gets to that stage so she doesn't get into the habit of crying for attention.

Here u can find Some free videos from a very good positive dog trainer which u can also follow on Facebook. Congratulations on your new puppy.

Crying Coton NEW
by: Anonymous

My 5 month old coton cries too! She is my second Coton & my other one rarely cries. I call her a "Drama Queen"!! I really thing that it is her way of communicating. Sometimes when she cries, her mouth is not even open. Don't know if it will pass with time, or that is just her! :)
