Finicky Eater Extreme

Molly has been on Blue Buffalo Small Breed since we got her. Initially she liked it and ate that along with a teaspoon of high quality canned food. She seems to get bored with her food quickly and would pass up on eating. I have tried changing dog foods - Innova small breed and Canidae. She ate one or two meals of the new food (I mixed with old food) and within a few feedings wouldn't eat that.

So back to Blue Buffalo. We have tried adding in chicken broth, string beans, carrots, and freshly cooked chicken breast or thigh and sometimes beef. She turns her nose up at most everything but steak. We are desperate for a solution. Any suggestions for an incredibly stubborn finicky eater? She has us wrapped around her beautiful little paw and we want her to be happy and well fed.

Finiky eaters
by: Iris Miller

If you go back and read other food related comment, I have written in detail what my Coton Tuffy eats. So I won't repeat it here, just add a note that might clue you as to why your dog may not want to eat. My dog will not eat if :
a.He has to go poop, (he already feels full) he will even refuse his favorite liver treat. Eating will only make him feel more uncomfortable and more difficult for him to hold it. How's that for one smart dog?

b.He watches me get ready to go out and goes into hibernation, refusing to eat, drink, or do anything because of his separation anxiety. ( when I come back home and he gets over his hysteria he will then run t ohis water bowl and drink. Then after he sees me settled down and he is sure I am staying, he will go eat a bite of food.
c: grilled or boiled chicken chopped up is a good thing to offer your dog. I offer small amounts pure liver(freeze dried), cooked chicken or canned tuna, with training commands during the day. I leave his dry food out at night because he is a real man, sneaking around to find something to munch on in the middle of the night, and nearly eats all of the dry food in his bowl, (I leave Tuffy's dry food out all day.He is not a big eater, he gets IAMS with a chopped slice of Natural Balance lamb roll each day.). Tuffy's Vet thinks it is great that Tuffy's weight has stayed the same (between 8-9 lbs.).He is four years old.

picky eater
by: SHERRY/COTTON

This describes Cotton to a T. She has always been just like that. Will not eat any type of dog food unless she is in her cage and riding in the car. We think out of boredom she will pick around at her dry food. We buy her chicken parts and cook them 2-3 times a week, she will only eat that for one day, wanting steak or rst beef the next. Does love green beans and carrots, broccoli and lettuce.

i will read that article and hope it will give me the answer. I have let her get hungry, leaving just her dry food on the floor but she will vomit foam after the second day and i cannot let her do that.

My concern is she is not getting the proper nutrition feeding her like we are. Thank you for your input and hope this article will help me. We love our Cotons and want them to be healthy as well as enjoying their meals.
