Hi, what are some of your favorite and highly recommended Coton de Tulear doggie supplies?

Searching for dog product testimonials and reviews can be difficult, especially for cotons. I'd like to know what other coton owners prefer for their dogs. One of the major things I'd like to know is food, especially since the dog food recall. Grooming products as well as training, toys and just other helpful products for raising your coton will all be appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Dear Anonymous, Thank you!
by: Iris Miller

I appreciate your comment, I obviously love Tuffy, and would write even more but think everyone would holler "enough already" like my family members. My adult children are very jealous of my relationship with my dog.
I am glad to hear that Tuffy has a little girl Coton like him. Soul mates! What is her name?
I am trying to find a Coton owner in Los Angeles with room for guests, who will board me and Tuffy for a week or two, so I can go there to visit my daughter when she has her first baby in September.(Tuffy has flown coast to coast with me on board several times). My daughter and her husband and a cat live in a very tiny apartment, no room for me and definitely, no place to put Tuffy. My dog and I are so attached, it is not feasible for me to go away and leave him for more than a couple of hours. He totally freaks out when I get back, I imagine he is thinking and trying to say "where were you? I was so worried about you! Why didn't you take me along? You left me all alone, omigd, omigd, omigd!!! :as he flips and jumps hysterically. We were very lucky that my teenaged granddaughter so graciously gave up a fun day to dog sit Tuffy so I could make the road trip visit my 97 year old aunt in New York.
Yes, I humanize my dog, and sometimes believe he may have incarnated from human to canine form. Big Smile!
blessings and love, Iris and Tuffy

My dog's preferences
by: Iris Miller

My Coton is very discriminating when it comes to food. Tuffy is 2 years old and been with me since he was six weeks old. The breeder recommended food was not his favorite, and as with all food offered, he picks out the pieces from his bowl that smell strange and puts them on the floor. I then switched to IAMS puppy formula for small dogs, which he tolerates and has normal elimination, not messy as with canned foods. After trying (and throwing out) dozens of dog treats (I now donate them to dog shelters) we have settled on natural products only.
Tuffy is not a big eater, I leave his food available all day and he may grab a piece now and then, but he always gets hungry at night eats his dry food before bedtime. Tuffy loves treats, I put them in his puppy kong toy (and give him commands before he gets his treat), to practice what he's been taught so he has some challenge to get to them. When he gets frustrated with it he bounces it off my foot to get the treat out for him. His favorite is Pure Bites freeze dried liver with no additives. I also found after sampling several formulas of Natural Balance(by Dick Van Patten) dog food, the lamb formula roll is his all time favorite. I now add a 1/4" slice chopped up onto his dry food for breakfast. It smells so delicious, I am tempted to eat it myself(but I refrain). His favorite people food is baked salmon and baked yams. The strange thing about that is he will not eat dry dog food or treats with salmon and yam(sweet potato) only the fresh food.
Fresh cooked chicken is also his favorite I chop it in tiny bits so he thinks he is getting a lot (per dog trainer). He also gets(daily) half a piece of a dried chicken treat called Mellow Mutt by Dogswell. It is infused with natural calming herbs like camomile and lavender and it does calm him down, I used it for air travel when he flew onboard and it kept him calm and restful. He cannot eat a whole strip, it is too rich for him and he will throw up if he gets too much of the dried chicken treats or table food. Once in a while he gets the small knotted rawhide treat wrapped in chicken. He will not eat any treats with the dark red coloring in it. The bully sticks are delectable to him but too expensive, and he goes nuts running around the house with it, trying to bury it. From reading this it sounds as if Tuffy is fed a lot but he only weighs 8 1/2 pounds and is skin and bones dripping wet.
