Spanky is so cute. My Cotton (that's her name) also does what spanky does barks and begs when she wants my attention she's done this since she's a puppy she's now 2yrs old but this was her way of telling me she had to go outside to do her business. Barking and begging has its advantage for me.

Tuffy is like Spanky, he refuses to use the pee pads since he became fully trained out doors. I used the trainer suggestion to stop the barking by using the "calm voice" and soft talking him"no barking, shhhh". He will use his voice to bark an alarm if he hears a frightening sound, so I have to go check it out then he stops.That's a good thing, that's what dogs do. He will also bark, to get my attention if something is wrong or he thinks I can't find him (hide and seek). It sounds like Sparky needs you to take him out earlier in the morning, I know, it's a drag, but they have a small bladder so gotta go. try it.

Spanky

He is gorgeous. Jonah luvs greenies. We do not have fleas or ticks in our area. I grew up in Pa. so I know your frustration. My father used garlic pills for our beagals & poodles, vet recommended.

On Dogs 101 for Coton's they show pee pad use on the ship. This is my preference for cross training. I find it easier for travel since our asphalt can get very hot.

Maybe on your patio u could lay down artificial turf this would keep his feet warmer & lay a pee pad when needed. You can also purchase a pre built turf pad recommended by the AKC.
