I have feeding problem with my Coton

by Michael Bayot
(Philippines)

Before, my dog Kevin used to eat a normal dog food (Eukanuba and Alpo). But a couple of months ago, my mom told me that he doesn't want to eat those anymore. My friend told me to just leave the food there since he will still eat it. But, unfortunately, my dog did not really eat the the dog food. So my mom mixed it up with our food (rice, pork and chicken together with the dog food) and he started eating it.

Is it bad for his health? What should I do to correct his appetite? I am worried about what they say that he might get sick, shorter life, and poor coat condition. Please help!

What is Angel Eyes
by: Vicky & Jonah (Az)

Since Jonah was little I have put a little boiled chicken or ground turkey sometimes mixed w/ whole wheat spagetti (rice is fine) broken up small w/veggies depending on what u like. Eggs are fine but whites must be cooked.

I feed Purina One Smart Blend after I used Purina puppy. I usually stick with chicken or lamb but I did try beef once but his poop really smelled. I noticed the difference since I always clean up while on our walks or anywhere.

I have always put a little something on all my dogs food. I do usually stick with dry since it is better on their teeth.

As long as there waste is firm & not loose most foods these days are healthy. Check recalls.

Feed according to weight of food on bag minus one eighth to one forth depending on amount of treats feed in a day. Healthy cooked chicken, turkey, fish, etc. & it does not take much I feel is fine.

Add a little garlic & a little goes a long way. I usually cut a chicken breast in half which will last 4 to 5 days two meals a day. Simmer 20 min. after it starts to boil & take off heat & let sit to cool. This keeps it moist & not dry & is cooked.

We are all such good mom's with all the great ideas & advice I read.

FEEDING A COTON
by: SHERRY-COTTON

I TO AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH PICKY EATER. SHE WILL EAT ALMOST ALL TABLE FOOD BUT DOES NOT LIKE ANY DRY DOG FOOD. SHE ATE MIGHTY DOG CND UNTIL I PUT HER ANGEL EYES IN IT. NOW SHE WON'T TOUCH IT, LAST TWO DAYS SHE'S EATING CND CEASERS/WITH ANGEL EYES AND LIKES IT. I KNOW DRY IS SUPPOSED TO BE HEALTHIER BUT NOT IF THEY DON'T EAT. ALPO AND MOST OTHERS W/GRAVY GIVE HER THE RUNS. SHE LOVES LETTUCE, CARROTS BROC. ETC BUT NOT ENOUGH IN THEM TO BE ANY GOOD. WE FIX HER A HARD BOILED EGG IN THE AM. AND SHE LOVES THAT. IS THAT HARMFUL??

I HAVE TRIED LETTING HER GO FOR A COUPLE DAYS WITH JUST DRY FOOD DOWN BUT SHE BEGS AND IS SO PITIFUL I CANNOT LET HER BE HUNGRY. IF GIVEN DENTI STICKS FOR HER TEETH, IS THE CND FOOD REALLY THAT HARMFUL?? WHAT SHALL I DO?? I WANT HER HEALTHY BUT WANT HER HAPPY AS WELL.

My coton was getting fussy as well
by: Libby Brieher

When my Coton and our Golden Retriever started putting their noses up for their normal diet of venison and sweet potato we began adding just a small amount of mixed packaged gravy or a portion of moistened dog food that comes in the aluminum packages. That did the trick and they both gobble it up like crazy.

feeding problem....
by: Deborah

Your mother's menu was more of an "ancestral" diet which, in my view, is excellent. We have two males, half-brothers, and our breeder recommended Inova and that was fine until a change was needed.....we changed to "natural balance" --venison & sweet potato, and duck and potato....A change in menu is always good...if you are offering a healthy program. Also, we have always and only given our dogs bottled water...two vets and the breeder indicated, bottled water vs. tap, can indeed increase the length of their lives. I have found the only book on Coton's, after much research...it is quite helpful...it is: "Coton de Tulear" by Wolfgang Knorr....his input on Food/feeding is helpful and does speak to variety.
