Is a 9 year old female Coton too old to adopt?

1.She was a breeder until about 3 years ago.

2.Has an allergy to vaccinations.
3.She needs her teeth cleaned really bad and at least 1 tooth pulled.
4.The vet says retired breeders should be spayed to prevent some potential
bad infections.

She's a very nice dog, but she's not very active; am I setting myself up to fund her Hospice care, or does she still have some good life ahead of her. I don't mean to sound selfish, but I just lost a very high health maintenance dog at 12-1/2 yrs. old. I don't have unlimited funds, already on fixed income and I want to enjoy my life with a dog. People use animals to make money and when they can't anymore they are just disposed of; but I can't be responsible for others just myself.

Thank you for your input,
Edie

Not too old NEW

The average lifespan of a Coton is 16 to 18 yrs old. She's in her prime. Cotons are as active as you are. Sounds like the perfect addition to a loving family.

Life span NEW

Hello,

I understand your concern about medical cost. I had 2 Cotons: one nearly 16 and a second 17 plus. We spent a lot of money in the hopes of saving both dogs because they were valued family members.

In my view, this wonderful coton is worth taking a risk for. If I could I would take her. We just got a puppy in October. I would say that you have been blessed with a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together!

Should you adopt? NEW
by: Bill

The fact you are asking other owners shows you really care and want to do the right thing. If your vet thinks she's in generally good health and you can afford to get her teeth cleaned, etc. then follow your heart, if not I'm sure there are others you consider. As far as activity, my 3 1/2 year old is fairly passive, but does really well on walks and 15 minutes or so play time daily. Many Cotons live 15 + years. Good luck however you decide

That doesn't sound like she is to old. Probably needs a happy home now. Good Luck -
