Is my dog a coton

My dog was a rescue from a bad situation, she was passed from 4 different places before she finally made it to me, she was purchased from i guess a breeder, the ppl who got her didn' take care of her at all, didn't feed her or brush her or even take her out of her cage, she was left to starve and sit in her own poop, her hair got so matted from not being brushed that when she was rescued it had to all be cut off, when i got her i was told she was a maltese but now her hair it growing back dark black/grey patches of fur are growing on her body and she has grey on her ears and head, she is very soft and silky and i have to brush her twice a day so she doesn't get matted up again.
