Yes there probably will be some jealousy but that is no reason not to get another dog if you desire to do so. You can help by not neglecting your 20 month old. They should come first in receiving the treats, toys etc.

Dogs will work it out and will bond very quickly--just be sure and spend time with your first so he/she does not feel like they are being replaced. Cotons are extremely sensitive and seem to be very needy for moms attention.

Mine was 2 when we got another dog, new rescue was 4. Dogs did fine, still jealousy at times as I only have one lap and they both want it --lol.

Good Luck!

No, not as long as you remember the rules of dog. The 1st in the house gets their food put down 1st, 1st cookie, 1st pet or greet then the the other. This keeps the rule in the house of seniority & reinforces the way nature works. This also helps w/jealousy.

Jealousy
by: Deb in TN

I had Aligrace when I brought Saylor Jane home. Even tho Aligrace was not an "only child" originally in our household and loved her sister to the point she would not eat for days after she passed away, she did not welcome SJ to our family. It took lots of patience and reassurance. They now get along wonderfully but are still very jealous of each other. I try to go with the pack order for instance, I make them sit in their spots to get their treats and Aligrace gets her's first since she was their first. I don't allow one to take food or treats from the other. I love having two at the same time. I feel that they are good company for each other although...my bed is now very crowded...lol
