My dog barks to people!

Hi people!

I have an adorable coton de tulear who is great with us and loves other dogs - really really loves!

But she can't stand other people, especially when they talk to us, she goes crazy! She has a really loud bark for a little dog! If some handyman comes, it's hell, we have to send her to das care or lock her, so the neighbours dont get mad at us.

Anyone have this problem? Do you have tips?
We tried to expose her to as many people as possible, but I have the impression that only got worse

Jonah has barked from the day I brought him home when people leave. This is the only time. He hates when ppl come to visit when they get up to leave. He doesn't bark when u come only whn u leave.

It is pretty funny. He will stop after telling him quiet then run to the front window so he can bark while u get into ur car & pull away. If I stand behind him while he's up on the back of the couch he will remain quiet but whn I walk out w/guests he barks like crazy.

I call it his quirk. (-:

I have the same problem with Pierre who is 15 months. He doesn't bark at everyone when we are out and about...just certain people. I don't know why some and not others. He is out with us all the time so he is exposed to other people and dogs a lot. He also barks at some dogs and not others. It doesn't matter if they are small or big.

ours is a 5 yr old male and while a very good dog/breed,we have the same problem. the more we try to train and discourage barking for what seems like forever the more he does it....any help would be great. so far have not found a trainer worth their $$ for this problem. this is the only issue we have ever had with our coton.

Barking at People NEW

We have a cotton who is very well behaved, My Havanese is the barker. We've had them 4 years and haven't curbed it yet. The things that help are putting her on a leash when we have visitors, asking visitors not to make eye contact (cedars rules, no talk, no touch, no eye contact) putting on a thunder jacket or dog coat, and not letting her sit in our lap. Good luck, Hope has improved but may never completely stop. We love her with all our heart anyway :-)

I have noticed the same with my little guy who is 11 month's old He is kennel trained n we have quite a few kennels scattered about the house Now when someone comes to the door or someone is leaving out the door i move the kennel near the front door tell him to sit in the kennel reward him he runs in the kennel and eventually he will learn to sit and be quiet when there is activity i use the command sit a lot so if he is excited and i use this command with reward he will stop what he is doing and listen and sit it relaxes him they are very smart dogs and in spite of their loud barking etc, they cannot help themselves but listen just my experience I truly expected a much mellower puppy in time he should relax

Same problem here!

We are having the same problem with our little Wrigley. He is 9 mos old & goes daily to day care. He is OK there, but barks at any new person. We, too, tried to expose him to people early on, but didn't seem to help. I am curios to see the responses you get.
