Nipping legs

by Rv
(Jersey)

My cotton was born 9 October 2024. She is quite nippy particularly when excited and more so with my 12 year old daughter, she will jump on sofa to nip her. Has anyone else experienced this? We try to give her a toy but she is still nippy. Thanks.

normal puppy behavior NEW
by: Gale

I think most of us can relate to this - puppy nipping is a common puppy behavior, but it’s important to show your pup that you don’t appreciate nipping and provide alternatives for her. This is especially true when children are involved - the last thing you want is for your dog to hurt your child - even if it’s unintentional or playful.

One of the most effective ways to curb this behavior is to either yelp or turn away immediately and not give any attention to her. Not only does this mimic how puppies communicate with each other when play gets too rough, but it also lets them know that playtime with you is over when they bite or nip.

You can also give your dog an alternative to chew on when this happens like a dog bone or chew toy.

Here’s an one of our blog articles that may help:

Fortunately, this phase doesn’t usually last long :)
