Zooey @ 2.5 weeks

Thanks for all of the support - I am so glad I found this site. Here is a picture with eyes open, nose starting to fill in, and her little tummy filling out nicely. I love looking at all of your pictures and reading about your coton de tulear companions. Any special things that I need to make sure I have on hand when she FINALLY :) gets to come home with me?

You have so much joy to look forward to. We got to take Oliver home at 12 weeks. The breeder gave us a cd called "kennel calm" which we played that first night. To be honest, he adjusted almost at once and we really didn't need it. Also we were advised to cradle him on his back several times a day, and hold him above our heads and stare at him until he turns away. This establishes early on who is the pack leader.
Keep posting pictures of your developing puppy. You are lucky to be able to bond with her so early.

There is also a good newsletter on house training on this site if needed. She is a treasure. I'm jealous.

Anticipation
by: Gale

It's so wonderful that you get to be part of your puppy's life from such an early stage and get to witness all the miraculous milestones. I got Luc at 12 weeks and missed those very first stages of life.

My advice is to just expect the unexpected. These Cotons are so smart and you really have to puppy-proof your home so they don't get into trouble - just like you would with a toddler. Here are some puppy-proofing tips to help you get started..

Keep sending those photos so we can share your excitement!

Just so adorable, We are excited for you and let us know how things progress. You will do fine, love and attention seems to be what they need. Are you planning on crating the pup at night?? If so I would put the crate in your bedroom (at least until she settles into her new world) Cotton now sleeps part of the night on our bed ( I do not recommend this) but this was a learned behavior in motels while on vacation. Bad Idea on our part.

Snuggle Pup
by: Betty Ayers

We got a "Snuggle Pup" through our breeder when we brought home our little guy. We only used the heart beat and warmer for a day or two, but "Pup" has become Hubble's best friend and he still sleeps with him (he's almost 2 1/2 now)and uses him for comfort (and chewing), oh, and for head resting :)
