Sleep

How many hours should a Coton sleep, both in puppyhood and as the dog matures?

Could you give an example of a normal Coton sleep pattern?
Thanks.

A lot NEW
by: Diane

Dogs in general sleep a lot, especially when they have a low activity level. But keep in mind, they wake more often than we do... When time permits, I try to engage them in lots of activity such as play dates, dog parks, trips to stores such as Petco and Petsmart (also, home depot, bed bath and beyond) car rides, parks, vineyards and daily walks and playtime out in the yard:

sleeping cotons NEW
by: sherry cotton candie

Mine are 3 and 5 years old and they sleep pretty much all the time.
They will chew on their bones awhile and follow me from one room to another, but when I am still---they are sleeping.

if we go somewhere they are awake and looking around eager to do whatever but pretty much most of the time they get bored or whatever and close their eyes. They are always aware of what I am doing and always have to be within site of me. Guess it is not a really deep sleep.

At night they turn into bed bugs and the 3 yr. old will growl and run to the bedroom soon as it starts getting dark. Our routine is that she gets her greenie soon as she gets on the bed, then plays with chew toy and falls asleep. She does not like it when anything changes in her little world. now that it is getting dark earlier she is not happy.

They will sleep as long as we are in the bedroom. Of course she loves to play anytime I want to but tires out quickly. Enjoy your little puppy and make time for play-just keep walks short. If you have time 2 or 3 little walks a day are good. They adapt very quickly to routines and will set their own pace. Good Luck.

Adaptable NEW

It was surprising to me just how quickly my dog adjusted to our sleep patterns. She goes to bed when we do and wakes up when we do unless we try to sleep in on the weekend - she is not on board with that at all :)

Sleeping
by: Sydney's mom

My gal Sydney is two and will sleep from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. During the day she sleeps when there is nothing more exciting to do. She will go all day with me on walks or swimming or Kayaking etc... And almost never stops. But on the week days when she stays with my father in law she regularly takes a 3 hour nap with Grampa.

sleep?

Is your dog still under a year old? They are like a human baby, needing a lot of nurture to thrive and grow,, and just like babies, a lot of the growing is while they sleep. I don't have a professional answer for you. My Coton will be 6 yrs; old in December and he sleeps in my bed, waking briefly to find a cooler spot or change his position, and to make sure I'm still there. he goes to sleep around ten thirty, after he's gone out to the kitchen foraging, to eat his dry dog food and get a drink, then he comes back to bed and we wrestle and play, then he's ready for sleep all night, and is ready to wake at Dawn, any time from 5 am to 7 am, depending how bad he's got to go. which keeps me healthy and moving around, because he will tap me on the arm insisting I get up, he drags me out of bed to take him outside to do his business, then he wants to play when we come back in, but I'm older now, I want to go back to bed and watch tv with a cup of coffee. So, he follows me and goes back to bed with me. He also naps in the late morning and mid afternoon. Just like people and children, all different. My dog Tuffy is a perpetual puppy, he love to play and run around every chance he gets. The more exhausted, the more he'll rest. the more bored, more naps.
