Foods that don't make my Coton throw upNEW by: Kevin
Our 18 month old male coton is a little picky and prone to throwing up if he deviates from his "standard" diet. He loves the Instinct chicken boosters and we use them as treats, but I barfs on the beef version. He's not that into kibble but occasionally enjoys Nature's Recipe Salmon, Sweet Potato, and Pumpkin Grain Free. His mainstay is Nature's Recipe Grain Free Chicken Recipe canned food, and originally liked the salmon recipe but my wife couldn't stand the smell :-) We researched these on Dogfood Advisor and at least labels check out. For other treats besides the Instinct, Leo loves Mother Hubbard's Peanut Butter mini bone-shaped biscuits, and Tricky Trainer salmon treats. But his all time favorite are fresh green beans (goes nuts when he spies them), cooked frozen peas, Parmesan cheese, and white rice!

Best foods?NEW by: Reenie & CoCo
CoCo prefers to eat foods singularly. No food combining, that's good for his spleen/pancreas. That's more meals/treats, good for his blood sugar.
CoCo likes mommy food. That's good cause its FDA approved, fresh, natural, no preservatives, no chemicals. Mommy's love is in the preparation. It's served fresh and warm. CoCo likes warm food, that's good for his tummy.
CoCo likes garden vegetables and herbs. He enjoys picking them with mommy and we treat in the garden, fresh. He's really fancy on green runner beans at this time of year.
CoCo likes variety, that's good for nutrition. He's always excited to get his food cause he never knows what mommy made him today. Yum, yum.
The best foods are fresh, home prepared, heated, FDA approved and served in small portions without too much food combining. The best time to feed is several times a day, including fresh treats. The best amount is: CoCo knows when he's had enough.

My puppy is on Royal Canine, this and Eucaknuba were recommended by my breeder's vet. My vet concurred that Royal Canine was an excellent selection! Eucaknuba has an excellent rating on dog longevity.

Dog foodNEW by: Barbara
I am going to switch to Innova. It has real meat as first ingredients and is grain free. I have to order online as vets, PetCo and Petsmart do not carry it.

Science dietNEW by: Stephanje
Hello,
I have 2 Cotons that are sisters. One has pancreatitis and was prescribed Science Diet ID, so that is what they both eat and it's been very successful. That said, I also started feeding them 3 times a day instead of 2 (same total amount, just divided by 3.) When we have tummy flare ups, I also give them 1/2 of a regular dose Pepcid AC and that works wonders. Best of luck!

Food is not tested by the Dog Food Advisor they use the label from the company & rate the food. They say this as u read their website. They give you a general rating opinion & recently Blue Buffalo just got busted for false labeling.
Obviously you respect your vet enough to take your dog to them, y not respect their opinion as to their opinion on food since they take care of your pet.
Hills Science Diet has been around for a long time & carried in all vet office I have ever been in. Simply put if I pd money to a vet for my dogs health I would follow their advice or go to another vet for a second opinion.

We feed Milo Royal Canin small dog. Never have a problem. No runny eyes or stinky poop. This is what our breeder recommended as well.

My cotton eats Innova dry adult formula. The breeders food gave her runny eyes and stinky poop, and she is paper trained. The Innova works great. I leave it out for her and she eats on her schedule.

First of all, sorry about your pup's tummy trouble...glad you took him to your vet!
Trying to find the best food can be a daunting task...our little guys seem to have a few digestive issues...especially when they're young. It does help if you introduce new food gradually. My breeder claimed that fish doesn't agree with them...my vet (who practices both western and eastern medicine) maintains that chicken is a 'hot' (i.e., tough digestible) for most dogs. They were both right, and Chauncey's system has been fine. It also helps to buy high-quality food. I switched from Taste of the Wild to Wild Calling...he loves both...especially the latter.
