What do the breeders feed???? Nobody's talking.

Okay, I didn't think I needed to count the many dog foods when Cooperman came to live with me, but it is well over a dozen. Because I'm concerned about my diet, I wanted to insure my dog has the best nutrition for a long and healthy life, so I decided to feed the best. All natural, without additives.

HE wouldn't touch it.

I mixed kibble with an assortment of gravies, canned dog food, but when a a friend kept him while I was in the hospital, she fed him some kind of packaged food that looked like hamburger in two or three colors. He finished up the cheap stuff, and tossed leftovers.

I continued the trials and errors, and after the ground turkey and broccoli dinners, that we ate, he turned down other offerings. When I moved, his articles, treats, chews and food were in a sea of boxes, so in desperation, I grabbed a can from the grocery shelf, pulled the tab, he ate it with vigor. I can't bring myself to read the label, but after all the food I've tossed, "the best from the best store, specializing in nutrition", this stuff may be the keeper, at least until the boxes are gone and I will then consider the alternatives once again.

These Cotons are so smart, I think they like freshly made meals, warm, fresh ingredients, or the cheap dog food from the mega grocery store. Who would've thought?

One thing I also have noticed w/Jonah is that the canned gravy foods he really does not care for. When I am short of time I will use Mighty Dog again only a soup spoon on top of dry.

But with any food it has to be in a wide flat dog dish & he does not like to get stuff on his beard. Or maybe its because he does not like to get it brushed or combed out although I always do it as gentle as I can.

Food
by: Vicky & Jonah (Az)

I feed Jonah Purina One. He always has boiled, grilled or baked chicken/turkey. A turkey burger (crust on both sides takes 5 min. to cook) sometimes a ground chuck burger (twice a month) whenever we have it. If I cook a lean pork roast or beef he has that never then do I add onion or salt as we eat it like this but fresh herbs. (About a soup spoon size) at every meal. He eats approx. 1 cup of dog food a day which includes the x-tra protein.

When I eat raw or cooked broccoli, carrots, banana, tomatoes, califlower, almonds etc. he gets some. I make him home made freeze dried liver as treats & cookies (website The Poop.com) The only dog treats I buy is Pupperoni & Milkbones.

Now I am not saying this is the way to go but I know it is a pretty healthy lifestyle. I split his 1 cup into 2 meals a day & basically he eats both meals. If not I do not worry if he misses one but he still then only gets 1/2 his food in the next meal & always a couple treats after potty time in the evening before bed time. If we are training I either use his food or decrease the amount feed to make up for the liver used.

U know he is healthy, good weight, & a good boy. I may cook 1/2 chicken breast at 1 time & then heat it up a little daily as needed & then switch out to grd. turkey etc. I use what we eat so I am not buying x-tra. Find out what works for u in ur household & I'm sure it will be healthy for ur best friend.

U know the old saying of people food has chgd. Stay with the dog food u like but a little x-tra protein or vegs. never hurts. Ck. the web for known toxic food for dogs & avoid. Good luck u will be fine.

what I feed my coton
by: Barbara

I feed my 2 year old coton, Obi Wan, Castor & Pollux Ultramix dry food over 4 cubes of 4Health can chicken & vegetable stew. He loves it! Gobbles up every bit. (I also feed my cats Castor & Pollux Ultramix dry.) I never feed people food. But, he does love a bit of cheese and raw carrots for treats once in awhile. He also LOVES Castor & Pollux organic peanut butter treats. All of this food is grain free. No corn or wheat.

Turkey Meatloaf
by: Rona

Barney eats Blue Buffalo canned Turkey Meatloaf dinner that is topped with a couple of crumbled Stella & Chewy freeze-dried chicken or beef cubes. He is fed twice a day and usually cleans his plate with gusto - or sometimes will turn his nose up and refuse to eat. Instead of trying to cater to his moods, I leave the food down for him along with some Blue Buffalo kibble (so he won't starve!) If its not eaten after a few hours, the canned food is tossed and kibble remains. I know that in the morning, he will once again clean his plate. I've given up trying to figure out why or when as there is no rhyme or reason. He is now 17 months old and these instances of not eating are decreasing. He weighs about 16-17 lbs. so I know he is not starving! His snacks are carrot sticks, broccoli, cheese, etc.

It's all trial and error.
I feed Fromm. It comes in a variety of flavors and you can get samples first.
What was your dog fed to begin with. Start there. It could be what it's missing.
This breeder feeds this. Each breeder is different and has their personal traits.

Good luck.

eating

I buy Beneful. But my coton will eat anything. He sits under the kids at dinner and attacks anything that falls. Pasta, carrots, bread, he eats it all! He eats like a Lab!
