What is the best collar for my coton so that he does not get matting on his neck

My Coton wears a round leather collar. The hair around his neck gets matted. I was wondering if somebody else has a better idea for the collar. Also, how do you remove the matting that gets in their beautiful hair?

Hi! I use Nylon Padded soft Dog Collar like this one from the EXCELLENT ELITE SPANKER Store. If it's rain - I put the collar above the raincoat.
And I brush my dog everyday to prevent matting on the neck.
