Best Food for your coton
by: Suzan Mesquite NV

I was feeding my cotton proplan chicken and rice. But I recently switched her food to a grain free gluten free food called Natural Variety Instinct Turkey which is good for the digestive system. This has helped my cotton a lot it doesn't upset her stomach and it seems she doesn't scoot or lick her butt after she does her business her anal gland doesn't need to be expressed every 3 weeks either. There are a lot of the
se grain free dog foods there's another called Nutro Natures Grain Free dog food. You can also check Halo and Blue dog foods. I understand how you fee
with so many choices to choose from I felt the same way when I was deciding what food to get my cotton. These are the best I've found when I was searching I hope it helps you decide. Good Luck

about Iams
by: Anonymous

Just and FYI about Iams = they have been involved in many petfood recalls and they lab test on beagles. http://www.iamskills.com/
As for California Natural, Evo and Innova they have been bought out by Proctor and Gamble which owns Iams and Euckanuba. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but wanted to make sure that you protect your babies health, as well as help to stop the suffering of dogs used in labs. I used to give my dogs Innova and California Natural and was really upset by the buy out. I now give them Solid Gold and sometimes switch up to Wellness for variety.

The best dog food I could find
by: Jere

My Coton, Dewey, is fed the best...Natural Planet Organic Dog Formula. You can go to their website and find the store near you that carrys it. Made with only organic,(certified by Oregon state to be organic) free range chickens, probiotic and has anti-oxidants like blueberries. It's the best for our Cotons. I love my Coton.

Our coton's food
by: lisa

We also feed our coton and westie off of a whole chicken. We boil the chicken and after it cools we pull it apart making sure there are no bones. (Cooked bones:bad, raw bones:fine) Sometimes we add leftover carrots and rice but they just like the chicken! They really don't like anything else and I have tried everything: BARF, the homemade raw from the local store, on and on and on. We do have some dry food from the natural pet store, can't remember the name, but it is a pink bag with a westie on it.. We sometimes give Nu-Pet canine chewable wafers; a vitamin and antioxidant. I have salmon oil that I sometimes remember to add..

Feeding Harry and Bella
by: Judy Hartman

We make our own dog food using chicken breasts and thighs mixed with rice (they really love yellow rice) and leftover veges thrown in like broccoli and carrots. Our bichon (now 16 yrs old) has thrived on this for years and the cotons seem to be doing well on it. I also give them dry Iams puppy chow in between. I just saw Angel Eyes mentioned and will add that to the mix as well.

I began making our own food after our bichon had a serious case of pancreatitis about 5 yrs ago. The vet said that the fat content in most commercial dog food was too high. We've never had a problem since.

With the cotons I've laid down the law that they will not be fed from the table so we don't have a begging problem like we did with the bichon.

foods on my list
by: Iris Miller

I had posted on an earlier thread, these are Tuffy's foods" The base food is IAMS mini chunks, he east about 1/2 to 3/4 cup a day .For breakfast he gets a 1/4 slice of Natural Balance chopped up on his IAMS mini chunks, I leave about a cup of the dry food in his bowl because he is not a big eater and always has gotten up and eaten his crunchy food late at night (just like a man!). Throughout the day he gets treats for tricks, Pure Bites freeze dried liver. I put it in his kong toy so he easts slower and doesn't swallow big chunks of it. Tuffy is three years old and weighs between 8-9 lbs. He also gets some of my food, (he loves)chicken, once in a while eggs.. He really love baked sweet potato and canned tuna, but not the dried sweet potato in dog food treats. Also a rare treat, IAMS mini biscuits, bully stick, rawhide chews, most of that stuff he buries in the couch or in my bed under the pillow! .Tuffy is pretty fussy about what he eats.
In the summertime he loves watermelon and corn on the cob (not too much!)

Dog Food

I've been feeding Jasmine Science Diet for small and toy breeds - ages 1 - 6 since July. She loves it. I was advised by my sister-in-law who has had several dogs of various breeds to stay away from the "store" brand of dog food as most of those have cereal as fillers and can cause runny poops.
My best advise is to either ask your vet what brand they recommend.

Dog Food

I alternate between natural balance rolls, duck, turkey, beef and lamb, with dry innova small bites, Wellness and Call of the Wild by Blue. My husband says we have a selection - why not our boys and girl. Good Luck. I also feed Natural Choice raw - but cook it a little to have it more solid. You need to change foods gradually - as to NOT have the runs.

Dog food choices
by: Gale

I too like Castor and Pollux - Luc gets Organix. We've tried many different brands and keep coming back to this. It is a little on the expensive side, but I think it saves money in the long run by keeping him healthy and out of the Vet's office as much as possible.

food

The best I've found is Stella and Chewy's freeze-dried raw patties. Heathcliff eats those either wet or with cottage cheese and chicken/turkey/beef 'bribery' meat. He really likes roasted chicken and roasted turkey.

Your baby probably does not need grains so look for grain-free. Check the ingredients for any dog food. Many dog foods have ingredients that aren't fit for man nor beast -- any type of 'by-products', 'meal' or, god-forbid, 'animal digest'. The latter, if you google it, will find out it is ' a material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and undecomposed animal tissue'!!

Here is the definition of chicken by-products -- "Chicken by-products include head, feet, entrails, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, stomach, bones, blood, intestines, and any other part of the carcass not fit for human consumption."

This is the definition of 'meat meal' -- "Meat meal can contain the boiled down flesh of animals we would find unacceptable for consumption. This can include zoo animals, road kill, and 4-D (dead, diseased, disabled, dying) livestock. Most shockingly, this also can include dogs and cats."

Food

My coton was on Taste of the Wild. She liked it, but it made her poops way to smelly and too loose. I switched her to Innova small bite adult. She is eating a cup a day and doing very well. Firmer stools and not as smelly. She is paper trained, so the odor is an issue.

dog food
by: LindaW.

Mine has had trouble with her teeth coming in and was having trouble eating the dry dog food. I tried all kinds of wet foods and she especially would not eat any lamb. I have been trying to get her to gain a little weight too. Nothing was working. I put her on Iams puppy and put some water on it and she seems to be liking that. She eats Pedigree over at my neighbors house. I have also begun to mix in some Castor & Pollux "Ultra Mix" (pretty expensive, but natural and not a lot of harmful additives). I also have a grown healer and she eats Iams mini-chunks.
