What temperature does A Coton like?

by Cherise
(Wheeling)

When is a Coton cold! I live in the Midwest Chicago area. I don't know when I should put a coat or sweater on her to go out. Or how warm I should keep the house for her ?

What temperature does a Coton Like NEW
by: Vicky & Jonah

Whatever environment you live in the most important is the feet. If you live in extreme cold check into mushers secret that you put on the feet while in alot of snow. You do need to b careful when putting the wax on that you put it on & go right outside or you may have paw prints on your floor. It can b cleaned up but if you don't have to just apply on say out door.

The next is pad-tough which can b sprayed on. I use this in AZ espectionally when we start walking more when our weather temp cool but is also good in summer for early walks w/the heat our sidewalks.

Pad tough u will find comes w/or without a sprayer. If you cannot find it with a sprayer no problem the sprayer top is a standard size that you can buy a cheap hairspray from dollar store & use.

The best way to make a decision is go to Amazon & read the customer comments on the products to help you choose which works best for you.

A coat, sweater or shirt certainly won't hurt if you feel more comfortable using but it should be something comfortable to run & play in without alot of buckles etc.

Cold
by: Grant

We live in Dallas and it gets pretty cold here in the winters. Macy loves to be outside in the snow and ice and run around. In the summer when it is really hot, she runs back in the house unless she can find a cool shady spot under a tree where she will kick back and relax.

coton temps
by: sherry cotton candie

I think maybe most do prefer cooler weather, we are in FL and in the summer mine are strickly indoor dogs unless in the pool. They seem to overheat easily---we went north two yrs. ago for Christmas and they loved the cold until it snowed.....After a couple of times of getting covered with mini snow balls on tummy and legs they did not want to go out. I allowed them to use the sidewalks that were cleaned off in the back yard---they would run like new born colts and were sooo cute.

Cotons love the cold!
by: Sherry & Cinderella

We live in Anchorage, Alaska. Winters are anywhere from +35 to -25 farenheit. Cinderella, (4 years old) loves being outside in the cold. It is difficult getting her to come indoors in the winter. I have 2 toy poodles too. It is hard to get them to go outside! I keep her hair short, as she loves it that way. I may keep a t-shirt on her at times or a sweater when she goes out, but she doesn't seem to care one way or the other, but I want her to keep warm. In the summer, which doesn't get that warm... 60's-70's, she pants frequently. The Cotons are definitely hot-blooded little bundles of love!

Cotons like cold
by: Milo's mom

We live in New Brunswick Canada. Gets very cold here..-5 C to - 15 C is normal in winter. Doesn't bother Milo and he doesn't need a coat. I keep his fur long in winter. He loves rolling around in the snow and asks to go out in it frequently. I've read that if you put a coat on them it impedes the insulating powers of their coat and actually makes them colder. I only put a coat on him if it rains. Just make sure you don't get road salt on the dog's paws.

Loving the cold in Canada
by: Sydney's mim

Sydney absolutely loves the winter better than the heat of summer and will play outside in the snow for hours. Her only issue is when the snow starts to form ice balls in her chest and legs. This happens when it's just below the freezing point but not when it's a bit colder. I have put a sweater on her at these temperatures to keep her covered so the balls don't form. Just be careful not to try and pull the balls off since it will pull out her fur and cause bald spots. The best way is to put her in the laundry sink and use warm water.

Beany from Nebraska
by: Charlotte

I find that Beany can tolerate the cold better than the heat. He loves to go outside when it's cold. 20 to 50 degrees. I always freeze out before he does. I do let his coat grow longer in the winter.

cold is good
by: dusenberg's mom

My coton lives in florida and wisconson. 6 months each. She tolerates the "warm" winter months in florida and LOVES the cool days in wisconsin. She loves to burrow in the snow. She longs to be outside when it is cold...and she begs to stay in the air conditioned house when the temps outside are warm. Your adult coton needs no coat.
